Having an issue where I am unable to stop a running cloth sim when I turn the sim iterations > 90

Here is my issue, I have two subtools visible, the base, which is the one I am trying to get the cloth to wrap around, is ~750k polys, the other is the cloth, which is on top of the base, is ~500k polys. Considering that I sometimes sculpt on models that are above 20M polys, I feel like this shouldn’t be a crazy thing to do. I do have to set my Max Sim Points above 500 though.

I have my cloth model selected and my base model visible. I run the Dynamics -> CollisionVolume calculation. If I set the Simulation Iterations value below 90, I am able to run the sim and stop at anytime by either hitting space key or clicking the Run Simulation button again. I would like to go above 90 however, ideally to around 300, because the results just look a lot better using that value.

My issue is, I can’t stop the sim when it is running above 90 iterations. My viewport keeps updating, I can keep watching the cloth deform, but no matter what I click or what button I press (I’ve tried hitting every key on the keyboard at least once) it doesn’t stop. The sim just keeps running til my cloth model turns into a puddle and I have to force quit Zbrush. The model looks great at the 1-2 minute mark, but I cannot get it to stop.

Also, I should note, if I try rapidly clicking on the viewport, like 100 clicks a second, Zbrush will crash, but I am not sure if that is unexpected, generally doing that sort of thing is unwise.

Anyone else run into this issue or have any suggestions for things to try?

Thank you

UPDATE: I figured out that if I spam the ESC key as fast as I can, it will stop the sim without crashing!

Hello @aaronjolson

Dynamics works best with meshes of lower resolution, relying on Subdivsion or Dynamic Subdivision for smoothing. Denser meshes, especially with more performance intensive settings will cause input lag. The simulation won’t be as responsive. The best way to interrupt the setting under these circumstances is to hold the ESC key. You shouldn’t need to spam it.

Take care :slightly_smiling_face:
