Harryhausen Cyclops

This is a small diorama project that I made as a present for my father’s birthday. It shows a scene from the Ray Harryhausen film “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad” from 1958. My father loves this film and introduced me to this gem at a young age. The film had a big influence on me at that time. I started modelling my own monsters with plasticine. I think the visual effects of these old fantastic films are still very much worth watching today. Harryhausen was a master of his craft.

The Cyclops and the tiny Sinbad where digital sculpted in ZBrush. After that they where 3d printed in resin. To keep the subsurface scattering effect of the skin I covered these parts just with thin layers of color. The diorama plate is handcrafted, made of wood, hotglue, foamboard and paint.
