Happy Jug – Digital Sculpture by Surajit Sen

Happy Jug – Digital Sculpture

“Happy Jug” emerged from a moment of unpremeditated amusement ,a rapid digital clay study in which I allowed instinct and brushwork to govern character rather than anatomical precision. The exaggerated ocular forms, curled moustache, and asymmetrical surface abrasions lend the piece the temperament of an ancient folk artefact unearthed from some forgotten provincial theatre.
I find myself perpetually drawn towards imperfect forms and eccentric physiognomy; there exists a peculiar humanity concealed within distortion. Even during swift blocking exercises, my sculptural language gravitates towards tactile mass, weathered surfaces, and expressions suspended delicately between comedy and melancholy, as though the object itself carries memory and temperament.
This work reflects my inclination to approach digital sculpting not merely as technical execution, but as a form of spontaneous psychological excavation. I often “play with brushes” without predetermined destination, permitting subconscious humour, fatigue, curiosity, and nostalgia to manifest organically through clay-like forms ,much like a traditional sculptor engaged in silent conversation with wet earth.
