Hans (the Austrian Guy) and the Yeti

Hey everyone!

I posted some shots of these two characters a while back. I’m putting them in an environment now, so I just wanted to share a quick w.i.p. shot with all of you.

Please let me know what you think so far and please critique it! I’d really appreciate the feedback

More shots coming a.s.a.p.

It looks awesome. Is this for a animated short?

Im so sorry…really I am…you asked SO nicely…but I have no critics… better luck next time! :+1:

amazing

wow this is great!, i love the style, the textures! all!! greatt job

Thank you very much! Yes, this is for an animated short. I should start working on the actual animating 2 weeks from now.

Thank you ever so much

Thank you kindly! I’ll see if I can post some wires and original Zculpture shots sometime tomorrow

The style is really good. I’ve been searching for something to criticize … and I found one little thing. Nothing really bad, but the pinkie on the yeti’s right hand is weirdly twisted to the inside, as if broken.
Other than that, I wonder why there is a glass reflect on the bottom part of the right window, which seems to be open (unless I’m mistaken).
But as I said, I was really looking for the little things. It’s a real good picture. :+1:

You’re bang on about the pinkie! I was staring at that earlier (there are still some skinning issues).

The right window is closed though. The one to the left is the only that is opened. I tried to stress it by having the curtains of that window being blown the wind, but I guess it’s still a little unclear. Any ideas on how to improve that?

Thank you very much for the pointers!

I looked a bit more to that window, and I think I can figure out why I was mistaken. Usually (at least from what I always saw) when you have a window like this (multiple panes of glass), the top and bottom parts are similar. I.E. if the top part (not moving) has panes, the bottom (that slides up) has panes too. It would help if the difference between closed and opened was greater.

Otherwise, everything looks great in my opinion.

nice work … wonderland

It really was hard to find anything to help you improve the pic… I only found two things… the pinkie, which was mentioned, and the “… for Dummies” book. I think it would be good to be able to see the front cover and title. I have no idea what the subject is, so either turn down the reflections/specularity on the cover, or angle the book more so that it is legible.

Aside from this, I think the image is great! PS: I did a cuckoo clock awhile back that you might take a look at. Not for any reason other than that I think it’s cool that we both modeled one. Yours is great as it is, so I’m not offering a comparison. Here is the link, if you are curious… Slosh Cuckoo Clock

:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

The wood… it looks awful… I think that’s from geometry level… I am able to see where a polygon starts and when the other ends (hard edges in the silouethe) If you get rid of that, the wood will look nicer. There is some texture stretching too (in the wood). The wood need nails!

And finally, the walls could look better with a little dirt on them (more natural).

Everything else looks ok.

this image took me a minute to understand what the creature was supposed to be. maybe make it a little more hairy? and to move the mountain in the window to be more visible.
nice image:+1:
is this a zbrush render?

You are right, I’ll try to put some more segments in that window  Thank you for taking the time to look over it again!

Thank you kindly!

Thank you! The book cover issue will be resolved once I animate the fly-through, I’ll definitely re-render the shot from a different angle tonight. This should resolve the intense reflection on the cover

Just ok? :stuck_out_tongue: About the textures and geometry issues, keep in mind it’s just a first draft. Though you are definitely right. I’ll work on those factors

Thanks! Will definitely implement the changes!
The scene is actually rendered in MAX.

Oh! I thought it’d be helpful of I posted my animated character turntable (so you guys could see the yeti in full)

Hey everyone!

Here’s another render from a different angle (as promised).

The next update will be probably be in a week or so, as I will be addressing all of the issues that were mentioned before.

Please feel free to critique! As I can still alter a lot in this upcoming week!

Thank you!

I prefer the first render : more light, composition more interesting, the room seem to be more open.
In the second one, the room seems to be awfully small. Plus, it seems that the Yeti is aiming to grab the glass … is that so, or does he want to grab Hans ?

Anyway, that’s just my 2 cents. I love the turntable you posted on youtube, the animation and transition are pretty good. I hope you’ll post the whole animation some day. Keep it up :+1:

wow this is great!, i love the style

Thank you!

The yeti will be aiming for milk and cookies :stuck_out_tongue: I haven’t gotten around to modeling the cookies yet, but it will all make a lot more sense once the whole scene will be finished

I definitely agree about the angle of the first shot being better!

Thank you very much!

This community is really great! Thank you all very much for the feedback

Thank you very much! I am looking forward to working on the animation

Let me know if you do decide to work on your characters, I’d love to see!
