the fibers are creating based upon the polygons so it following your rows of geo. Try turning the ByArea slider to 0 and see if that helps. can you put a snap shot of your fibermesh settings up as well?

Figured it out! Was watching Drusts video on cloth making when he mention Align Edges under the Modify Topology tab. That took care of it.
