Hair/fur and clothing

Could anyone give me some tips on how to create fur/hair and clothing? my biggest trouble seems to be with pointy stuff. I tried making hair from zsphere sketches but i couldn’t figure out how to make the tips pointy.

As for clothing I try to use mesh extract. After that I try to shape it but I always end up screwing up the shape where it borders with the skin.

Are there any tutorials or anything for this stuff?

Thanks again for the help!

For fur & hair, there are some options. With a fine enough mesh you can sculpt hair/fur masses the same way a clay sculptor might. Snakehook, Rake, and Slash tools might come in handy. This produces the kind of hair masses you might see on a bronze sculpture.

For highly realistic hair and fur in 3D, you will probably want to use an outside rendering tool and add a fur/hair simulation. Maxon C4D has a very competent hair module as does Maya. Joe Alters Shave/Haircut is another option in this category as is Sasquatch from Worley Studios.

Simulated hair can also be faked by layering several semi-transparent meshes and painting hair strands on the meshes.

If 2D output is your concern, you can “paint” hair in 2/2.5D either Zbrush (fiber brush for example) or an image editor like Photoshop.
