Is there an alternative on how to draw color/material and lighting to a texture?
Zapplink
I tried it, and although I can definately use this, it’s not what I’m looking for. I don’t want to texture outside of zBrush, I want a texture that is - how do you call it - unwrapped? I’m new to this so I’m not sure if that is the right term.
Basically what I did (before zbrush started crashing) is import an .obj, apply a material, color and lighting, render it, and then I used Projection Master, simply to ‘unwrap’ it, so I ended up with a flattened out texture. I repeated the process as many times needed (rotating the object) and combined them in Photoshop. The key being that I don’t want to paint it, I want the material as well.
PolyPaint can include material as well. Just turn on Draw>M or Draw>Mrgb
After you’ve finished painting, you can transfer your PolyPaint back to a texture. Please read the info at the link I provided, as it explains how to do that.
You can also still render and then use ZAppLink to send your image to Photoshop, similar to how you did with Projection Master.
I’m afraid that Tool: Texture: Col>Txr also crashes my Zbrush, after rendering. I can’t change or disable the UVs because that would make my texture unusable on SL.
Tried that and it just sent a picture of what my rendered object looked like in ZBrush to Photoshop, like a screencap, it wasn’t ‘flattened’.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you’re looking for a texture with an actual UV layout to come from zBrush. And, while you can definitely get a uv layout out of zbrush, its not gonna be something you can use on a practical level anywhere else. You’re pretty much gonna have to use another 3d app for unwrapping your UVs, then either reimport or reapply in zBrush.
But aurick is right, polypaint is really the only “in-app” alternative to PM. if col>txr is crashing, I might look into checking your UV mapping or just finding some alternative workflow that doesnt involve painting in zb, I dunno. Crashes like that are really such a case-by-case thing…
That’s exactly what I’m trying to do, and it has worked on several occasions with MP, but recently more and more crashes occur with different models. I have produced unwrapped textures like that and fixed the seams in Photoshop, worked like a charm.
The UV-map is fixed I’m afraid, because Second Life uses it to render sculpties, I can’t change it a lot or the sculpt will be messed up in SL. The point of my post was finding an alternative workflow…
Indeed, that’s what I gathered from reading other posts regarding PM crashes, it appears to be a lost cause. Too bad though, I really like ZBrush, I’ll pray that the update will fix some stability issues I guess…
I have, interesting stuff. Doesn’t fix the crashing though.
Projection Master no longer crashes, if I disable shadows in the render first. Weird…
Which material are you using?
Doesn’t matter, the behavior is the same for any material that I use.
