GUV Bumpmap weirdness in Cinema!

I created a bumpmap using GUV tiles and bumpviewer material. The greyscale image shows it applied in the colour channel in CInema. As you can see it is applied correctly, no seams, all looks well. Until I apply it to the bump channel (lower coloured image). Seams appear between the various areas of the GUV tiles and if you look closely the bump changes from positive to negative. I’ve optimised the mesh and aligned the normals but it made no difference.

I’ve wracked my brains but can’t think what could be causing this

Any help would be appreciated! - Baz

Can’t anyone cast any light on this? It’s driving me nuts!

I’ve made another discovery but it just confuses me further. If I apply the bump map in the displacement channel it works! This all suggests that the UVmapping and bump map are OK doesn’t it? But how can it work in the colour and displacement channels but not in the bump channel!?

I could make the file available for download if anyone is prepared to take a look, maybe see if it works in the bump channel of another app?

Have you turned sampling off? I would like to check the file if you want…

Thanks Mahlikus, you’re a star! You can download the Cinema file and bump map here. Sampling? You mean MIP in the texture editor? If so yes I’ve tried it set to none and square.

Someone over at CGTalk said they’d had the same problem and thought it was related to Hypernurbs. I’ve not had a chance to investigate that yet.

Thanks again! - Baz

Here is your answer.
Select the material tag and turn on ‘Use UVW for Bump’.

TADA!

 :D :+1:

Ah! thanks mate! Someone suggested this over on CGTalk but I didn’t realise what they meant. I thought they meant the map was applied uing uv mapping! I don’t really see the point of this check box but I’ll remember it in future! You’re a life saver! Thanks again  - Baz

Thanks from me too…had the same problem…:+1:
