Gun Model WIP

Hey guys,

I am really having trouble here, I always develop models and get stuck when editing in zbrush. For instance this model I did in Maya and then textured in ZBrush but it was just painted on with the brush tool so it is only a still because projection master did not like it for some reason. I just think it lacks so much and I want it to look real, so does anyone have any suggestions and advice. I just can’t get my models to a high enough level of detail right now.
Please help I am desperately needing help!

I think it looks great. As for what you could improve, the textures don’t agree with the model. The texturing looks like funky 70’s retro, whereas the gun looks space age. Unless you were trying to go for a corny classic spy movie look, you might want to stick with smooth black and metal textures. Also, the barrel seems to pinch and bloat when it gets to a new segment, rather than it being a straight cylinder with the other stuff built to support it. If this is supposed to be a laser it mgiht not be an issue, because the barrel doesn’t have to be big enough at ever point to support a bullet, but it might lend itself to realism.

Another thing you could try would be to add tread to the handle with masks and editing the curves and using a low z intensity. This would make it seem more feasible to hold, as sweaty hands wouldn’t cause it to slip. The multiple layers could also be improve perhaps with something to hold them together. Right now they seem to be precariously stacked on top of eachother. Finally, the traiiger should be moved further from the handle and perhaps be gived a guard to protect against accidental misfire. Hope that helps.

I redid the textures for my laser gun.

Looks cool now! I think that the textures/materials fit very well.
