Hi,
is there a way to group subtools together without losing subdivisions? I have a mess load of subtools in my file and would like to organize it if possible into little subgroups just like how Maya can with layers.

Please dont take my word for this, I am mostly baffled by how subtools work and why, however I think what you are after are the “merge” and “merge down” buttons… (in the subtool pallet)
also there is this for pulling them apart again if you need to:

Oh yah, look a few posts down at Soultry’s post, he clarifies part of it.
As long as the Subtools have the same subdivision level all subdivision will stay when you Merge Down or Merge Visible.
