Grey border/document issue

I recently switched to a new laptop and have notice something odd about the viewport/document sizing. I have provided a screen shot to try to explain as I don’t really know what it’s called. The thin white border that tells you where you can freely make adjustments is cut off on the left and right, it wasn’t like that on my last laptop. Sometimes it will randomly start up as I’d like, with the maxium document space i’d like and the thin white border there on all sides, with about an 1/2’’ or so space for ALT adjustments. Any help?

Hello @ndsugi ,

Note that you are using ZBrush but have posted this in the ZBrush Core forum. The answers for ZBrush will be different for this subject than for ZBrush Core. I have moved your thread to the ZBrush Usage Questions forum.

The Thin white border line only appears when some portion of the canvas extends beyond the borders of the UI viewport. To size your canvas to fit in your UI’s viewport, adjust the dimensions in the document palette.

Saving a Startup document (Document> Save as Startup document) will have ZBrush start with those document dimensions. However, this only applies to starting ZBrush in a fresh session without loading a Project or Document file. Those two formats store the Canvas dimensions in the file itself and will override the startup doc when loaded.

The Document> WSize option plays an important part in how your canvas is displayed when loading a Project file. This feature is enabled by default in a new project and its status is saved in a Project file. If this is enabled, the document will resize itself to fit your display resolution (modified by any OS display scaling) minus space occupied by your UI elements, regardless of whatever you have the document dimensions set to. Canvas resolution has a performance impact in ZBrush and the program will try to keep performance high by getting rid of excess canvas that can’t fit on your screen. This may explain the situations where the canvas seemed to resize itself.

In order to ensure the document opens with specific dimensions you will need to disable this option before saving the file. Once saved the file will remember that setting, and the file will open with the canvas sized to whatever the dimensions in the document palette specify.
