Greetings! I'm just learning.

I use Illustrator and GIMP which is a raster software much like Photoshop. GIMP has features that really help in the making of height maps.
Here’s a youtube video showing how I make height maps in GIMP
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bfy-YPIPxY

There’s more to what I do than just that but that’s the basics. I use Illustrator to do 2 Dementional outlines on separate layers and save as a psd file and open it up in GIMP to use various tools to create gradients for height.
I have GIMP set up as my zaplink program and it works good.

Decor for furniture’s doors.

The bas-relief is based on “Morgan Dollar”.

A Phrygian cap, I must get one for the cold weather.

Absolutely stunning work! I have shown your work in this thread to several people now and I always get a Ohhhhhhhhh, then a gasp. You have the ability to just capture an on-lookers eye. What a gift. Myself… I just can’t quit looking at it!!

What part was done in MoI and what part was in ZBrush?? Thanks for sharing Leo. Dan.

Dear Leonid!

How you do that? You are at the highest level …and rises higher and higher.

Greetings! I´m just learning. Dr.Dr.Sheldon Cooper would ask: “Sarkasm?”

Hello again,
Thank you for the video link.
I am trying to find a better workflow for photo conversion to go from 8 bit to 16bit. The big problem I come across it the noise and lack of
I am already able to convert my AI files via PS and extract the 3d in ZB.
What I have been searching for is a production worthy solution to use with client provided photographs under non-ideal situations.
Attached are the results I am getting currently by using gray values in 8 and 16bit gray-scale space as Alpha 3d extractions.

My response to Dr. Shelton - “Not at all. This is not sarcasm. Naked Truth.”.
I will try to live up to expectations…

In the program MoI I did a base. In millimeters. According to the desired size of my customer.

An alpha for the background.

Alpha masks for text.

Everything else in the ZBrush.

Final result in the ZBrush.

Thanks Leo ! I have been working toward a process like this and your information has sure helped. I design & produce a line of LED flashlights. Lately, I have been adding medallion looking designs to some and the customers seem to really like that. The design normally begins with a photo of a loved one , a favorite pet & etc. That makes it a long process by the end but worth the time. THANK YOU AGAIN… MASTER Z-BRUSHER LEO!!! Your ARE GOOD to say the least!!! Whew!! :+1: Dan.
