Hi, I am new to posting as well. I have spent the last 2 years learning ZBrush when I can.

Coming from a graphics design background I have been searching high and low trying to find “best practices” for integrating my old Adobe Illustrator Assets into my new ZBrush workflow.

One of the ways I have been exploring is sign making from existing images both vector and raster and converting to something usable in ZB. 16bit Grayscale Alphas is the way to go… but there are alot of little details that are just not very apparent or available on this topic I have come across. At least not Using Adobe Illustrator+Photoshop to ZBrush workflows.

I know your post is 4 years old, and I hope this reaches you… I took the image you posted and converted the depth data into this ZB file… really using the make 3D function in the Alpha tab.

I am very interested in seeing how you created this Depth map from start to finish. Would you be willing to demonstrate the process?
