goZ problem to maya

Hi everybody, first of all i’ll apologize for my english because isn’t my native language, and second say thank you (all of u) for creating such amazing community

Ok, so, my question :stuck_out_tongue:

i was creating a character with the help of socott spencer’s book (human anatomy) and this is my first time with zbrush, but i was getting class on my university and i just can’t stop of finding information, cuz is just so much fun :X
anyways i was modeling and polypainting this character, and also i create right UV’s for the model (on UVlayout), i set the normal and texture map on the lowest sub division level and the polypaint map on sub 7 to get a nice render on maya, so i export the model and everything looks nice UNTIL i hit render, as u can see, it looks awful!! i don’t know what i am doing wrong, so if anyone can help me, ill be thankfull forever >_<

thanks!

I’m having the exact same issue and so far I have not seen anything that helps with this. Greatly appreciated if someone would help solve this issue!

and now i tested with everything and the problem is persistent, even with the scott spencer’s model, demo soldier, demo head, anything, i just cant export to maya to keep working =(

I am not sure that this is the problem, but it looks like you are rendering in maya using the maya renderer with a normal map that is set to “bump”.
Make sure you are rendering using the mental ray renderer in maya.
Turn it on under Window>SettingPreferences>PlugInManager. Clilck the button that says Mayatomr.mll.

Then open the Hypershade. Under BumpMapping click the arrow on the right. If you don’t have an arrow then click the checkered box. Choose file and load your normal map if it isn’t loaded already.

Find the bump2d tab. (Click the 2nd arrow at the top of the window you are in) and set the the bump type to ‘TangentSpace’ not ‘Bump’.

I am not sure this is your problem but it sure looks like what happens when a normal map is connected as a bump and rendered in maya, when it should be connected as a tangent space map and rendered using mental ray.

Hope that helps.

Kissing is out of the question, I am an old married fart. hahaha
Be sure the quality settings are set to production quality in the Mental Ray renderer. The default is only draft quality. The mental ray renderer won’t pick up all the details anyway and you render really big.

Good luck with the hair and stuff.
