GoZ mesh back from Maya is all spiky

Hey guys whats up?

I’m following this tutorial that’s a 15 part series.
http://www.youtube.com/user/3dworld#p/u/96/BmB8PA3A1kI
And I’m loosing my fine detail. In the video Scott gets a pop-up when back in ZBrush asking if he want’s to transfer the high-res detail and I’m not getting that pop-up. So when I CTRL+D a couple of times it smooths out my detail. I’ve tried a couple of times and still getting the same results. Also, I GoZ’d at a higher level and only paint selected Polys’ on only half the head and extruded the horn along a path. Instead of doing both sides or deleting half, then mirror and weld verts, cause I thought I would take a look at mirror and weld in ZBrush and that created issues too.

Can someone point me in the right direction on these issues plz?

Thx,
-Dave

Hey Guys

I was able to figure out the GoZ problem I was having but when I reimported back to ZBrush My mesh is all spiky as you see in the image. Any way to fix this?

Thx,

It’s likely that your projection settings in ZBrush aren’t being very kind to this particular model. You’ve got a number of points that are really close to each other, but oriented to radically different normals.

If that’s what’s creating the problem, before you send the model from Maya back to ZBrush you should adjust the settings next to the Project All button.

My recommendation in this case would be to not use GoZ. Instead, export the OBJ from Maya, bring it into ZBrush and append it to your original model as a SubTool. Divide it and then use Project All yourself. If you have a problem, undo, change the settings and try again. If there are any areas that just insist on being problems you can even mask them before using Project All. Then you can invert the mask and tweak the settings to be better for those specific areas.

Hey Aurick!

Thx for the reply, I found it last night, it was the projection distance slider.
Im not in ZBrush right now but I think it was a pretty low setting like .09, it has to be set before using GoZ to send the model back to ZBrush (it has no effect on GoZ export) for anyone else who has the same problem.

Thx, Cya
