GoZ creating new instances of Maya

Hello ZBC,

I’m just picking up Zbrush so I’m probably missing a simple step here. I’m exporting a tool from Zbrush 4r6 to Maya 2011 using the GoZ feature. Whenever I do this with Maya already open, instead of loading the mesh into the current Maya scene Zbrush opens a new instance of Maya and loads it there. I’ve watched a brief tutorial where the user was able to export their mesh with GoZ directly into their already open Maya instance, so I’m wondering if there’s some setting I have to change to get this behavior.

I installed GoZ and its Maya shelf without a hitch. Exporting from Maya to Zbrush with the shelf button works perfectly fine, no new instance or anything. It’s just the other way around that’s giving me trouble.

Thanks!

My guess is that one of the programs is set to Run as Administrator and the other is not. If Maya is set to Run as Administrator than ZBrush must be as well. Otherwise, GoZ will do exactly what you’re describing.

Hi aurick,

Thanks for your response. I’ve tried running both programs with Run as Administrator turned on and off, but GoZ still opened new instances of Maya.

I did however come across this solution after a quick Google search… no clue how I missed it yesterday. Reading is hard, man :stuck_out_tongue:

Forgot to mention I’m running windows 7 with Maya 2011 64-bit, and following the steps in that post worked for me.
