Going from sculptris to zbrush.

I had a bunch of questions that I couldnt find answers to with a quick search around the forum and internets so I thought I’d make a thread.

Im brand new to sculptris and zbrush. I just made my first model in sculptris: http://i.imgur.com/ShzhE.jpg (warning it’s 1.5 megs)

Then brought it into zbrush, which Im brand new to and immediately became disoriented with the UI. I wanted to continue working on the model in zbrush but I can’t figure out how to do a few things:

  1. How do I create eyes? I can’t figure out how to symmetrically put two spheres in the sockets and work from there.

  2. How do I create clothing? After following a tutorial I found I used the extract tool but no matter what portion I selected it extracted a copy of the entire object. I get the feeling like this only works with objects that have topology. If that’s the case, what’s the fastest way to create retopologize (sp?) a model with 700k polygons?

  3. Are there any videos out there to give me a SUPER simple rundown of Zbrush’s entire UI? Most videos I’ve seen jump too far ahead for me to follow.

Thanks in advance to whoever responds to my questions. Here’s a neat video (imo) of my first sculpt.

Q1. How to create eyes

  1. In the Subtool palette, click ‘Append’ and append a Sphere3D.
  2. Using the Move Transform (W), position the sphere in one of the eye sockets.
  3. In the Subtool palette, click ‘Duplicate’ button.
  4. Go to Tool > Deformation sub-palette and click ‘Mirror’ button. This will move the duplicate sphere over to the other eye socket (providing your model is symmetrical).

Optional: If you want both eyes to be one subtool, make sure one eye is on top of the other eye in the subtool list, select the top one and click ‘MergeDown’ button.

Q2. How to create clothing and retopology

Probably the easiest way is UsingAppended ZSpheres to Retopologize

Q3. Training Video’s

Jason Walsh ZBrush 4 Training

Oh awesome. This is a huge help.
