going crazy with GO Z and displacement maps and resolution confusion!

hello,

I am a film student in Montreal and I am currently taking a 3D class in Maya, I am working on a model that I created in Maya and I also decided to work with Zbrush because of how intuitive it is and so I tried to use the goZ function but it did not work for me so then I imported the maya file as an obj file and started working on it in Zbrush, I made quite a few changes all the while saving them in obj format, I quickly realized this was a mistake, and so I had to restart all over again, where I started saving everything as zbrush tools, so I got my model to a point where I wanted it and so I am having problems moving forward because I am very new to 3d modeling, and so I am having problems understanding importing and exporting, subdivision levels/ resolution, displacement maps and this goZ function…

so I really need some kind of advice or direction, the model that I am working on is a for a school project and the class is focusing mostly on Maya, so we do not get a lot of help with learning Zbrush, I have tried to look for as much as I could online, and I tried to do it myself many many times but I just can’t get it to work

please could someone help me, I would be truly appreciative

thank you and have a great day!

My recommendation is to go to the links in my signature. Start with the PDF for 3.12, which also applies to 3.2. Then view the video tutorials. After that there’s the online documentation. Between that stuff you’ll have a much better idea of what you’re doing with ZBrush.
