GoB: an unofficial GoZ for Blender.

Hey Guys,

I have Zbrush 4R6P2 and just updated the latest Blender 2.71. Copy the GOB script from 2.69 and placed it in the script addon file as per the previous version.

Went back into Zbrush, under Preferences>Goz> I updated the path to Blender (64 bit). Reset ® the Goz button path to Blender under Tool palette. Sent the Gear 3D tool once I made it a 3D Polymesh. Zbrush said it was saving file, clicked Icon in Blender and there it was!

Hope this helps…

Hi all, I apologize if this is a noob question.

I am having trouble getting the “Blender” button to show up under GoZ in ZBrush on my mac. I’ve watched the tutorial video on cg cookie and read through the installation instructions, but I’m still having trouble. Part of it is that the instructions seem to indicate that the downloaded file should have separate components to drop into the ZBrush and Blender directories respectively. My download only has one .py file. Blender seemed to recognize the file when I added it, but Zbrush doesn’t see it. I’ve tried dropping it in the GoZApps folder alone, I’ve tried it inside of a new folder entitled “Blender”, but either way, when I open up ZBrush the GoZ menu doesn’t change. Am I missing something?

Be nice if ZBrush would support “Blender” and “Gimp” as part of they auto import/exporter. As part of the intergration of ZBrush and Blender & Gimp. As A Indie, ZBrush is allot cheaper + Blender + Gimp  Than Maya type software and photoshop.

Found this in the forum. Works with 4R6 and blender 2.7.1…

Hi everyone,

I cannot get this working for the life of me. I have the Blender3d add in working… but i cannot get zBrush to find the Blender3d program.

I got the blender3d script from here:

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts/Import-Export/GoB_ZBrush_import_export

And using the GoB addin folders copied to the correct directory as per the .pdf (C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Blender\GoB_addon_265) here:

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=337314&d=1356090255

Can anyone tell me how to get this to work ?

Plus is there is any plan to make Blender3D an official GOZ plugin for zBrush ?

Same here any new is welcome it’s the only way i have found for export vertex color to unity

Im having the issue where the extracted file is just a script. not the two blender and brush files. Was there a solution for this in the end?

I was able to get this to work tonight with Blender 2.71.

First, the zip file at Blender Extensions is incomplete. It only has the Blender plug-in for 2.69, not the Zbrush folder. Go to this site to find links for an earlier version (2.65) of the package.

I used the latest Blender plug-in (for 2.69) and the extracted Blender folder from the older version for the Zbrush part.

After placing the ‘Blender’ folder in the Pixologic/GoZApps, Zbrush failed to recognize Blender as a possible connection app. My mistake was copying the wrong ‘Blender’ folder. The correct one is inside the Zbrush folder in the zip file and contains a single text file: GoZ_Info.txt. After correcting this and restarting Zbrush, I was able to then set the path to Blender.exe.

I installed the Blender plug-in (for 2.69) in the usual way and enabled it. The two buttons appeared in the menu bar. I crashed Zbrush by trying to export the cube from Blender so I assumed that Zbrush was not yet fully configured.

Restaring Zbrush, I brought in a cylinder, switched to edit mode and made it a Polymesh 3D object. Then in the GoZ line of buttons I hit R to reset the GoZ tool, then exported to Blender. The new GoZ import button in Blender brought the cylinder over. I then exported the cube from Blender to Zbrush without a crash.

Basic stuff, and I don’t fully have a grasp on the whole workflow, but perhaps this will help some of you who have run into some of the issues that I found.

Thanks jrboddie, that worked for me too!

I was never able to get the 2.69 version to work, but I’ve still been successful using the 2.65 version of GoB by following the instructions in a PDF that came with it. Seems to work fine for me so far with ZBrush 4R6 and even in Blender 2.71. I’d like to to use the 2.69 version of GoB, if there’s some advantage to it, but I still haven’t been able to successfully do anything with the single file that is in the download.

If I place the GoB_2-69.py file in the same folder as the 2.65 version ([blender path]/scripts/addons/GoB_addon), Blender still uses the 2.65 version. The filename for the 2.65 file is “ext_GoB.py” and the filename for the 2.69 version is “GoB_2-69.py”. There’s an “init.py” file that appears to be what calls the “ext_GoB.py” file. I tried renaming “GoB_2-69.py” to “ext_GoB.py” so that it would be called instead, but doing so caused errors when pressing the GoB button in Blender to export to ZBrush.

I guess it’s not really a problem since the 2.65 version seems to be working, but if anyone actually has the 2.69 file working without the 2.65 file, please let me know what folder it’s in and if there are any other files with it.

Thanks!

<code>Is this the folder you’re talking about?

C:\Users%username%\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.6x\scripts\addons</code>

If so remove the 2.65 files and just put in the GoB_2-69.py file in there. I’m using just the 2.69 GoB with Blender 2.72 and it’s working fine.

Mine, i should put it in my Blender addons folder then it works flawlessly.

C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.72\scripts\addons

Regardless of the fact that there always seems a way to make GoB work with yet another new version of Blender, it would be “nice” for this plug in to change status to “official”, have it in trunk, whatever.

Problem is, I do not know whom to ask for this (Blender/Pixologic).

This is not meant to critize the maker of the plug in (got it to work in a few versions of Blender), but it would remove a ton of headaches whenever a new version of Blender arrives.

I suggest, to change the UI-Buttons of GoB.
It’s always confusing, if people don’t use them regulary.

My Blender-Icon disappear. Now there are 2 ugly pics, which tells me nothing, without a tutorial.
A normal GoZ-Button would be easy to understand.
The second pic is a switch for synching ZBrush and Blender?
Play- and Pause-Button would be more intuitve.

I also want the Blender-Button back, which lets the spalshscreen pop-up by clicking it.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had any success using this addon with version 2.72b? If so, can you provide instructions on how to install the addon for Mac OS X?

Thanks in advance!

It works for me on Win 8.1 N

follow the instruction of jrboddie

:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry: I end up following this instructions but is not working anymore, I think since version 2.71 of blender. I would like to know if the developer of this addon can provide the latest update in the first page of this thread in the first post, that way is more easy to find any update to us and new artists that want to test this. Is really frustrating knowing that this kind of addons is so important and zbrush is not doing any kind of help to support it only because is Blender. Maybe I’m wrong but is really frustrating since a lot of us use blender for poly modeling. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have repackaged the zip with instructions.
Tell me if it works.

(PS : I cannot edit my first post… )GoB_2-72.zip (7.6 KB)

Removes a lot of the Info bars functionality, All the menus have disappeared

Either way, eager to get this to work properly. Looks super useful, Haven’t managed to without Zbrush crashing but that’s probably something with my setup.

… but when I load the .py file I lose my file menu.

Is there a solution?

Many thanks in advance,

Neil
