Go Z / 3D Studio Max and UV Maps

Is there a known issue with the way the unwrap UVW modifier in max interprets UV maps from meshes imported using Go Z? It’s weird because bitmaps appear correctly on the mesh in Max’s viewport, but when editing the map it is just planar projection from the top. I tried creating a cube in max, goz to zbrush, uv master to layout the uvs, and goz back to max- and the uv maps are reset to the planar top projection. Any ideas?
