Glowing Horns - WIP

I'm finally unlurking and posting some work I'm doing with ZBrush. I'm confident I can actually finish this, so I feel okay actually showing it off.

I’ve been teaching myself the program off and on over the last couple months. A lot of the time I’ve put into this has been time learning process – what you’re seeing represents probably 10 hours of work with sculpting and texturing and tweaking the render.

I started off with a basic Poser 6 figure and kind of went wild. I modeled the horns in Lightwave so there’d be a little more geometry to work with and then I took it into ZBrush and subdivided up to about 3.8 million polygons. Though this is just his head, I’ve detailed most of his body. It was rendered out with Lightwave (I’m starting to get a good feel for how to get ZBrush stuff back and forth there).

I’m also trying to teach myself sufficient discipline to not model in fingerprints on a hand you can’t see in the final render.

A slight update. I’ve been working on the textures. This is just a screengrab directly from ZBrush, so no nifty rendering. Still some cleanup work to do on the horns.

interesting looking fella ya got there. Looking forward to seeing where ya go with him.

It is hard not to go nuts with those fine details ain’t it?

I would like to make a suggestion you can take or leave as you please…and that would be to kind of crack and split up the skin a bit around the horns…the coloring gives the impression they are coming out kind of painfully and the skin around them doesn’t really give the same impression. Hope that made sense.

experiment away!

The top render looks just like a freind of mine (except for the horns), and he lives in Oceanside also. What did You use for reference?
Good work though. hope to see more.

In my opinion, the viewport render tells more of the character than the actual test render. You are losing much skin/veins/color info on the pic, especially with the superilluminating horns. I feel like they own the character, and not eh character owns those. To be honest, I ended up inspecting the horns instead of the face, and could fully appreciate the deatil work you done only on the viewport render. I think you might give his face a bit more light to make the details and features more pronounced, since he looks interesting in the viewport, where details are evident.

I am liking this a lot, good project:+1:
