Getting artifex when displacing texture xyz displacement map in Zbrush

I am getting a lot of stepping effect when I displace my texture xyz in zbrush…not sure how I can fix it.

I used Mari shuffle to get this displacement from a multichannel projection. The map is 8k 8bit. Attached a screen grab.

Would really appreciate some help!

I have the same problem and if you take a really close look to your texture (in your 2D file) you will see the same steps. I will try to solve it and back to you if I have any luck with that.

So i was also searching for the solution and came across your thread, However i found the solution and if anyone is still wondering.

Answer is convert it to 16 bit Grayscale mode.

Step By step :-

  • Copy R Channel (R,G,B any of which you want) from Multichannel Displacement map from XYZ.

  • Make New document with 16 Bit Grayscale.
    Doc

  • I do Flatten image before saving, so don’t know if that necessary or not.

  • Save as a Tiff File (I don’t know with other format but i do work with Tif). :slight_smile:
