Getting a Smooth STL import

HI All,
I had a question that has been dogging me for sometime.
I Dynameshed this STL ring that I brought in from Rhino at 1024 then subdivided up to 21 MP .
Still getting this non smooth surface. It affects the quality of the nice Vector brush elements that are in 4R8.

Can anyone tell me how to get these imported STLs to smooth up without losing the shape or sharp edges when I import them ? I think the surface would polish out easily in the metal but its a real problem when I go to render in Keyshot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks !Nose Ring 3.jpg

You must dynamesh at a high enough resolution to remove evidence of faceting. Increase the resolution value. Depending on the size of the object in the ZB worldspace, the required resolution can vary. If the ring is very small, it might take a high setting.

If the ring is already strongly faceted from a low poly count, dynameshing it at high res will “lock in” the faceting. Dynamesh doesn’t actually do much smoothing by itself aside from the blur control…you must subdivide the ring sufficiently prior to Dynameshing. If there’s some sort of export resolution setting from your third party program, you may have to increase the value there.

Keep in mind though some matcaps highlight the appearance of facets more than others. Make sure you’re actually viewing it in KS to see if theres a real problem.

Thanks ! Will give this a go

What the heck are you designing?

An engagement ring for a nose, ears, and throat doctor? I know there are lots of doctors in Florida so this is my best guess.

This was just a test run.
Used the built in Vector brush as it was close at hand
