Thought i would try a caricature. Proved to be quite a challenge-but good practice. Created the head and body from z-spheres did all the texture and color in painter. (I guess Zbrush does “monsters” really well ;))

Good work. How much is poly and how much is Painter? Did you do just the head in Zbrush?

This place is one of the few places on the net where I can go and not have to read political bickering and abide the hatred being spewed back and forth. It has been like an oasis of pure art and nothing else. This is what attracted me to this site and led me to purchase ZBrush in the first place. This place is a mixing of amateurs, hobbyists and professional all freindly and willing to help each other in artistic endeavor. Should this board ever be reduced to a sesspool of political name calling I personally would never come back. I think I am in the majority here with this opinion. Any famous person is a good subject but should not be used as an excuse to introduce political name calling and hate baiting to this board. I have no power here but this is my humble opinion as it is.
Your work is very good. The likeness could use a little more tweaking but in general I like your style

it’s the artist to decide what is style should be not anyone else, so if he likes to portrait a celebrity in this way, if you don’t agree with his idea there’s no need argueing.
I like when there is sense in images, and wether you agree with it or not you can’t blame him for doing this.

It seems like once this gets started it never stops. If someone posted a religious icon with a derogatory remark I’d react the same. In fact you may be surprised to know I agree. I just thought it a bad thing to get started on this board. There was another Bush head a while back and the comments started. The moderator responded about the same way I did.
well I think censorship would be absurd on a forum dedicated to art and I’m glad to see images that make people react.
in the real life, if Idon’t like or I’m not confortable with the ideas of an artist I just ignore his work, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be the same on forums.

My post is a to the artists initial comment. “monsters” are creepy and send shivers up my spine. It’s not just random name calling, humour warrants my reply.
I personally don’t think this forum should be blind to the real world, we are part of it. If a decpition of Bush envokes such reactions, there is probably good reason for it, and that shouldn’t be blamed on the poster.
I salute you for bringing this up, opening possbilities for more than just ‘namecalling’. I think FridayEve has at least moved people with his work, unfortunately I personally believe this subject will always get such replies.
I believe this simple statement about art;
Knowing how to make something is skill, moving people with that skill is art.
Giving expression to those emotions should not be censored.
Next to amateurs, hobbyists and professionals using Zbrush, there are also those same distinctions in the reactions.

All I can say here about this minor furore is that if you’d had seen some of the
head sculpts/designs we used to make at ‘Spitting Images’ some years ago
for british TV, as caricature goes, this is ‘tame’ by comparison…

Firstly this is not a comment about the art works quality nor is it about the fact that charicature should or should not be political and here in the forum.
My complaint is simply this:
It is extremely easy to put garbage and hate on leaders of the world and George Bush gets his share. What annoys me is that making simple and childish dislike statements without a follow up of why one says such things is the height of ignorance and ingenuous.
I actually think that Bush is a reasonably good leader under the present cirumstances especially when one considers the alternatives like Hilary Clinton, Gore and the like.
It is one of the most difficult jobs on earth and requires an enormous amount of compromise and wheeling and dealing to get anything done. It seems to me that a lot of people are very unfair to the position and should really try to run a company or something to see how difficult it must be to be the leader of 300 million nation which just happens to be the worlds super power because it has stood up to be counted and all western people take benfit from this.
But this is exactly what I suggest is not what belongs here in the forum and I suggest that we agree that if we wish to discuss politics then maybe those who are interested in this should create a forum for just that.
I could not let go of this because it really irritates me that so few people are not being serious and adult about the whole political aspect.
Armchair commentators can not be allowed to just spew their venom. A challenge is a must but it does not belong here.
What is your opinion because that is mine.

Its all a question of context.
If you post a given picture on a political forum then guess what…
People are going to discuss it from a political point of view. If people post the same picture on a zbrush forum people will comment from a sculptural or pictorial point of view.
Saying that the picture can only exist on one forum is silly.
Because the world is complex and manysided and can therefore be viewed from many angles. Why try to strip off things their complexity to make them simple and onesided??
Here we view things from one angle but that doesnt mean that the thing we look at doesnt have a lot of ways to be looked at.
Let the things we show be as complex and manysided as the artist want and let us discuss it like we want. And here that is most likely from a figurative point of view.
So now, instead of a bunch of posts bashing or supporting one political figure or another, we have a bunch of posts arguing over whether people are going to start (potentially?) bashing one political figure or another, instead of a bunch of posts that bash etc. etc. etc ad infinitum.
I love the look you achieved with Zbrush and Painter and would like to hear more about the process you used. Nice stuf, FridayEve.
