Geometry HD problem in ZBrush 4R6 P2

I noticed something disturbing in the last update of ZBrush. My hd geo is define by default in the preferences to 10 millions.
When i push A to enter into HD geo mode it never show me more the 3 millions poly… even if i crank up the max poly in the preferences to 15 millions… I used to be able to chose in the preferences how much HD geo I could see, at list it was like that before. Now it’s seem to be lock to 3M or less .
I’m working on a ride; it’s a very big scene and I’m using the Nick Zuccarello HD trick… https://vimeo.com/9673644
But if you can only show 3 millions poly or less in HD (without knowing how much poly zbrush will chose to show 800k, 2M, 1.2M???) at a time it’s a real pain to split you model in polygroup.

Is there a solution? A work around? A P3 coming soon to correct that and other stuff?
It’s badly needed for me to have an answer it’s kind of an job blocking issue…

I’m not getting any love here.
anyone?

Pushing A will show adaptive skin/zspheres. Maybe you’re thinking of something else?

well yes it’s something different… but thank you for the answer! :+1:

The issue here is just that Zbrush is choosing alone the quantity of poly it shows in HD geometry when you actually push A after subdividing in HD… even if you chose any number in preferences for the HD poly max… (mine is 10 million+ by default)
That make the workflow of Nick Zuccarello near impossible to do. Because you can not make polygroup without knowing how many poly will be shown in HD…

Am I making any sense? I hope…

I guess you’ve read all of this? >> http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/subdivision-levels/hd-geometry/

Oh yes! I read it a long time ago. I have been using Zbrush since 2001 wayback in version 1.23b… Wow… now that make me feel old.

Sorry I made you feel old, I didn’t mean to. Some things have changed with the software, what worked before may be slightly different now. I’ve seen but a few upgrades since R4. Hope you get sorted.

Different for better is ok… but for worse is a problem. Sadly I find myself in the second one with the HD poly.
