Fun with plants

Has anyone tried to import plants from plantstudio ?
It’s now a free programm and it exports well to .obj.
The possibilities to create plants even from scratch are amazing and there are a lot of nice ones on the site.

Wowser!!! Thanks for pointing that program out!! I’m gonna see how well it works on WirtualPC(mac) - the potential for Zbrush/terragen/plantstudio combined is huuuge.

Really good! I downloaded the trial version way back when… have to go have a look again. Like the placement.

Yhanks to DM I downloaded the free Plant Studio a couple of weeks ago to replace my expired trial version.

Another page you might like to try is Bantam 3D who offer Twig, which does a similar job but in a more art-oriented rather than strictly botanical parameter way. It’s not free, but costs only $10 to buy. They also have free Grass Maker (does more than the title suggests) and Scatter programs, also worth checking out.

Thanks !

Do you know that you can also import (not too complex) plants parts created in another program and introduce them in the Plantstudio objects library. The only little problem is that you must know exactly where is the first construction point of these objects because the placement and all rotations will be controlled from this point.

Kindly,

I downloaded plant studio a few weeks ago and I was not impressed with the plants created. They were more like clipart than realistic looking. I guess I will have to give it another try.

I think that they are excellent for a certain level of detail. It would be stretching it to try to use these in a close-up, unless you use custom leaf and petal models that have a little higher resolution. But this would be great to cover a hillside with some realistic wildflowers or grasses.

I am wondering if it would be possible to create a ZScript that would do something like this for trees? The task would be much simpler than trying to create every kind of plant. You would have to have the ability to create the tree trunk and branches in the code, and then populate the tree branches with a model of a leaf. The ZScript might be configurable as far as how the tree’s proportions and branching were implemented, and it would allow you to choose a model for the leaf.

Hmm… I downloaded PlantStudio and saved a daisy as an obj, then tried to import it into ZBrush under Tools/import, but I’m having problems with it. My save settings on the PlantStudio side were: selected plants/ group by whole plant/ rotate by 0 degrees/ scale by 100%/draw stems as cylinders with 4 sides, and the rest I deselected. I saved the obj in ZExportImport, then went to tool/import and selected the obj file. The box that the current tool shows up in is blank, but it does say that the current tool is the daisy. The Alpha selected is 00 brush. When I draw the daisy on, all I see is a stick, with no petals or leaves.
I just got ZBrush (and PlantStudio), so any suggestions for this newbie on what I’m doing wrong?
