Frostbiten, vampires from the northern parts of Sweden

Hello everyone,

Thought it was about time to show some of the work that we at Fido Film did for Swedens very first vampire feature film, Frostbiten. The movie premiered in february throughout Sweden and has since then won an award for Best Fantasy Film at the Fantasporto International Film Festival in Portugal as well as being sold to a bunch of other countries all over the world.

All models were built in Maya and then brought into ZBrush for sculpting and displacement extraction.

This is one of the lead characters vampire alter ego:

I hope you guys don´t mind the size of the images. Any comments or feedback is more than welcome!

For everyones convenience I thought I´d post this here on the first page as well:

Here is a collage of selected shots that I´ve put together. You will need QuickTime to view. Enjoy!:

very nice work, great character.
when is possible to see it in the world (in italy for example), we are very interest to see it.
have you some shot to show man in suite and cgi stunt?

Great detail! I would like to know how you made the wrinkles in the neck area. I try to do the same with a head of 2.000.000 poly’s, but can’t get enough detail…

…would be great to see some textured versions of your models and some “stills” to see how the CGI-images are integrated in the movie…the models look very good :+1:

madrenderman: Thanks man, I´m glad to hear that you like it. Well I´m not really sure when or exactly where in the world it will run. But the DVD is on it´s way I think. Well I´ll see if we can prepare some pictures with the guy in the suit. For now all I have to show you is the cg version.

Plakkie: Thanks, I´ll try and get the artist that did the modelling and digi-sculpting to drop by this thread. I´m sure he could give you some tips on how to achieve stuff like that.

jantim: Well of course, just seeing these models doesn´t really do our work justice. Thanks! This is a still frame from one of the shots with the vampire from the first post:

And one from another shot: Cheers, Janak![FrostbitenREEL_1k_1.jpg|1024x578](upload://wYHNiOmGEQeVwOB5O4fOPBmOmsH.jpeg)

Dr. Beckert going through some changes… (the entire head including hair is cg)

TOP TOP TOP !!
exellent work very impresssive.:+1:

I don’t have any questions… :+1: :+1: :+1:

Nice to hear you like the models. Of course it’s in the renders that they really looks cool.

Plakkie: Well the finer details where all done in projection master. I used a bunch of alphas either as stencils or applied with the directinalbrush. And then using the simple brush with apha 36 to enhance them a bit. The heads are 1mil+ polygons so if you have 2mil you should be able to get the details in there.

Hi,

Here are some pictures of the “shape” that was done by us as well.

Hope you like them.

WOW, so much make up on it!
This was a whole body suit(no hand and head of course).
The seaming work look good, no visible seams.
I like the coloration.
About the cgi look very good too,
I was going to coment something about the roundnes of the check bones and the eyebrows, but I see it is like the real make up.

Good work, congrats,
Arturo

Thank you all for all of your nice comments! We´re all glad to hear that you like our work. Thought it could be interesting to get some production info as well (?):

Fido Film delivered: 55 shots 3 minutes of VFX Tools used: Maya

ImageModeler
MatchMover
Zbrush
Photoshop
Shake
After FX
Our brains…

Our core team on the digital side looked like this: 1 (and a half ;)) modeller 2 animators 2 texturing and rendering artists 2 compositing artists

The team grew and shrunk according to the needs of the project. On top of this we also had our creative director and two persons working full time making sure that everything ran smoothly, made sure the scheduling worked out and that shots were delivered on time. I don´t think we could have done this without the meticulous planning they set up.

Anyone interested in seeing this stuff move?

Cheers, Janak
