FrogMan

Hey guys, I’m new to this forum but I see there is tons of useful information on here and a lot of encouragement!! So how can I refuse…

This is my first Zbrush model. I started in Maya with a base, went to Zbrush to do more shaping and detail, then exported out the new base mesh, and am now working in Maya trying to get the displacement maps to work. Argh! That is frustrating, and I’ve noticed that a lot of people on here have already struggled with that…

My best shot has been rendering with Turtle for Maya. That is the only way I’ve gotten remotely close to what it’s supposed to look like. I’ve followed a bunch of the tuturials on here, like Scott Spencer’s video, but haven’t had good results. Usually my frog ends up bloated… So if anyone has any advice that would be awesome!

Beautiful model. Can’t wait to see it complete. Will he have webbed feet and hands?

Fabulous first post! Welcome and good luck. :+1:

Astonished work!
Pilou

it looks awesome!first model in zbrush?? you’ve got to be kidding!

Exceptional quality, valri

Are you familiar with relief mapping? If I am not mistaking it’s also called “parallax” mapping.

If you are interested in, here is a link for new MR shader for Maya;

Who knows, it might be more efficient way to render Zbrush bump map level details in Maya.

Wow thanks for the nice comments  mattybyng - No he won’t have webbed feet and hands… I wish I would have done that from the beginning but now it is too late! Unless of course you can think of a way to do it now?

abe_Tamazir - Yep this is my first model in Zbrush! Such a powerful program… I’ve been modeling in maya for a couple of years though, pretty low poly stuff so this is just so fun!

ejder - I’m not familiar with relief mapping but I’ll definitely check it out. I’m willing to try anything cuz this displacement stuff is getting kind of frustrating! I wanted to just give up yesterday and never look at a computer screen again!! But this has been very encouraging so I’m back at it today!

Thanks everyone and I hope to post some more pics soon!

cool character !!
great modelling :+1:

deform a 3d plane to fit the hands, and multimark in place…when happy polymesh the model …might be an option for addign the webbing.

:+1: LOL LOL LOL

characters i’ve seen pulled off this well in long time. congrats/good job!:+1:

Here is just a small update. I’m working on color maps and bump maps right now and getting used to the projection master and zapplink. Those are powerful tools! I’m forgetting about rendering in maya for now… so no more oversaturated images for a while. Happy to hear any crits on textures =) So far its only color:

Thanks for the comments too although I don’t understand why to keep Frenchy Pilou away from his legs?? Oh well…

Ron - I would add the webbing but it would probably screw up my texture maps. I am happy without the webbing too. It’s based on a tree frog which barely has webbing anyway. Thanks though. =)

wow…beautifull…with a proper shader it will look fantastic!
concerning pilou…try to studie french mythology  (in a foreign culture)

The French seem to have a taste for frog legs.

Many moons ago there was a comic called Weird Tales (I think that was the one) that had a really creepy cool story in it about this fat guy who loved to eat frog legs. There would be a scene of him gorging on buckets and buckets of legs while under it there were tons of frogs getting around on a flat cart with wheels. Needless to say at the end of the strip the frogs got their revenge and now the fat guy has to get about by rolling himself on a cart!

A little info on French frog mythology.

we do eat frog legs but this kind of toad is a bit too muscular for us. Please Valri do think of us next time, we love them a bit more tiny!

Keep up the good work looks great.
