Frequent crashed when sculpting in HD.

-subdivided 6 times. (12,554,240 Polys)
-HD subdivided 2 times. (200 mil HighDefPolys)
-window XP, 4G ram, quad core

I am facing the following problems while sculpting in HD:
-it took up to 20 mins to open the saved Ztool (that is sculpted in HD)
-everytime i press ‘A key’ (switching back and frm HD mode), will need to wait 5 mins also and i can only sculp a tiny portion at a time in HD.
-while half way saving my ztool or waiting after pressing a key, the zbrush will crashed sometimes.

i would like to know whether this is normal? or are there any solutions to this problem?

i know that in one of the zclassroom videos they tell you to start your HD divisions when your model is about 1mil polys so i think that might be it.
what are all your performance settings at in zbrush?

Thanks spaceboy, i will try that.
Under memory, i max it to 4096 ram. The rest of the setting under memory is at thier default.

It’s a bad idea to set your memory slider to 4096 when working in XP 32 bits. ZB can only handle 3GB under XP 32-bits, so i assume that your problems results from that. Try installing Win XP 64bit. This will allow you to at least use 4GB of memory, although ZB is still a 32bit application.
Concerning your loading time issue, why don’t you save your model at subdiv1? That will speed up things quite a bit.

I did save at subdiv lvl1 all the while. Thanks for the clarification dsoellbuster:), i have always been wondering how much ram can zbrush utilize. No wonder it doesnt have any difference in terms of speed when i try to work on the same file on another pc that have 8G ram.
