Freezing issues

I have a mac pro tower, it is maxed out with the best video card and most ram i can put into it. I am working on a sculpt that currently has a total of around 50 million polygons.

Does it make sense that my system cant handle this, and freezes up when i try to rotate.-and is that number way to high in general? If so what number should i stay around?

Thanks,
Garret

You are expecting a lot. Consider your approach. Do you have sub tools? I was amazed by what displacement maps can do to low res geometry. Use localized hi res where needed.

Alright, thanks for the advice, so in general you think thats probably just too many polygons. Im going through subtool by subtool and decimateing the ones that can be so i can lower the file size.

Well see what happens.

Investigate using the 16 layers available to you, this software is good, awesome even. I’d also recommend getting the axis script from the forums thread here to swap views. http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?161588-quot-Axis-quot-Plugin-for-ZBrush-4r2
If you don’t need it displayed to model, turn it off. Transparency may help with lag/refresh rate? ; I haven’t investigated it though.
