Free ZTL Model from Nick Zuccarello (new VIDEO page 9 added 8/7/08)

Oh Good!

My least favourite debate rears it’s head on my most favourite forum!

In my humble opinion the original posters generosity in sharing his model is to be comended and his attached personal beliefs to be taken or left depending on your personal opinion.

I never even noticed the text to be honest until i started to see some negative posts further on

Anyway, I don’t believe you have to be religeous to be kind but if it somehow helps people be ‘kinder’ than normal then that’s good right!?

Also A hell of a lot of amazing Art is based around Religeous stories just as so much is based in Myths and legends!

If someone came on here and Posted an amazing sculpt of a Vampire with a bit about their inspiration saying they believed in the cult of Dracucla or whatever No-one would bat(sorry!) an eyelid.

Believe what you will just don’t use it for ill

Keep on Z-ing
fishadder

I’m petrified!

Many users here have completly broke this thread. I will remember to you that the discussion subject is: NickZ’s free ztl model!!! :rage:

I don’t believe that the moderators permit all this chaos!

Please, here we are all clever and of ripe age. Why joking all the readers of this topic with a no-sense discussion? It’s a stupid thing.

I see the foundamental forum laws completely ignored, and no one moderator have wrote something or deleted the posts out of topic.

I think that we must to be ashamed of what we have done here: a big, childish, trouble. I think that Mr Zuccarello don’t like this.

No words, I’m deeply disillusioned!

a great thanks to you nick
I wish more people had this kind of spirit to share there hard work in the hope others will better themselves and give people joy
(and I’m an atheist also but it warms my heart to see ppl do this  )

I have to say I am totaly dissopointed in how far this has gone. I realy have to restain myself from getting involved in these kinds of heated topics, but I have somthing simple to point out.

The words are not Nicks, they are Gods words and we all have every right to show them, this just may have not been the best place or timing for it.

The bible is not made from 66 books of random infomation, and man made opinions. 2nd Tim 3:16-17. The problem is too many rely on opinions, and not enougth actualy look and read the bible to see what it says for them selfs (in context).

Nick choose a very clear and easy to understand passage of the bible, The bible contains the truth, we just dont all see it, too much has been taken out on contex, like Nicks motives.

The point here is, this guy has given video after video out, now has given a free model and this is what he gets? Totaly behond me, it realy is.

We are all free to opinions while being respectfull to anyone that hears them. I have seen some disrespect here. I know it wont make any difference, but please think about your own motives before concidering what others where.

Nick has put it there, its small text, you dont have to read it.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Eveyone quiet now.

Just look at the model.

Ooooooooh! Nice! ;):+1:

Last night this thread had quieted down. This morning I started work to discover a mess. I have now deleted several posts (on both sides of the debate) because ZBrushCentral should not be used as a place to argue and fight.

From my perspective (as an individual, and not a representative of Pixologic), I believe that Nick could easily have sold his model for $50 a pop and made a ton of money from it. After the amount of time and effort that he put into this, he’d have been thoroughly entitled to do so, and I would have been one of the buyers. The fact that he gave it away is astounding, and everyone would have been asking why he did it.

His reasons are selfless, and whether you agree with the words of the message or not, they are positive. You can choose to focus on the positive, yourself by appreciating the contribution. Or you can choose to be a negative force by focusing on a moral debate. I would like to believe that the ZBC community is capable of the former.

If you have a disagreement with another member, take it private. Do not post it here.

For those of you who have already posted on this topic: you have said your piece. Please do not continue to fuel the debate.

One final point concerning the deletion of posts: I know that some of you are going to be upset that this was done. But consider that complaints about that amount to being irate that one’s demands for censorship were censored.

Not that anything needs to be added to Aurick’s post, I thought I would put in my two cents.

I’ve worked with Nick for several years now and he is a great source of information of all things 3D. Nick is truly passionate about his work and a great source of inspiration. His head model posted on Gnomonology sold like hot cakes when it came out. His body model would have sold even more.

From a professional perspective this is a well layed out base mesh that would be a superior replacement to the tired Super Averageman model that many users are currently starting from.

I think many missed the point of Nick giving this model out. It’s his gift to you, take it or leave it.

First off, I want everyone to know that the terms of how this model went up, the graphics, the message, were ALL created by me. This was in no way an official endorsement of my view by the good makers of Pixologic! So any unrest can lay solely on my shoulders. (I just want to say thanks to the cool people at Pixologic for letting me share my work with everyone!)

I also want to make sure that everyone knows that I am not upset with dissent or opposing views; I have already been able to reach out to many people on a private level over this matter. (So for those that are worried that my feelings are hurt over this, don’t! I’m a big boy, I made my bed and I’ll lie in it.)

Aurick, I couldn’t have said it better my self. “The fact that he gave it away is astounding, and everyone would have been asking why he did it.”

The reasons that I did what I did are simple, I was called to do it. I feel if I can reach just one person then anything I have to go through now or in the future will all be worth it. Believe me, it would have been WAY more easy for me to just post my stuff up and not have said anything at all.

If anyone wants to private message me about this feel free, I won’t yell, I’ll just talk to you one human to another, and I WILL try to respect your views. Heck me and my brother go round and round over this stuff all the time, still love him to death.

Now on to the fun stuff!

One last thing that I would like to clear up is this, I have heard a couple of people say they like the model but wouldn’t use it in their work. What I was thinking about this model is this, in traditional sculpting you have to build an armature (depending on the type of material you will be sculpting with) I want people to think of this as a pre made armature . I don’t want people to have to think about topology, I just want them to have fun and sculpt, spend more time creating a great sculpt and not great topology. Like I said, this model isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it is pretty nice to sculpt on. The reason that I built it the way I did was strictly to have a clean mesh to sculpt with inside of Zbrush. The model also has UV’s on it so you don’t have to worry about that aspect as well.

I have heard some people say that they have a Mac or they have Zbrush 2.0 so they can’t take part in the fun. I will be working on exporting out all subdivision levels as OBJ files. This way the model can go anywhere. The model at that time will also be available to be put in your favorite animation package so you can rig the character up.

Eventually I would like to make a displacement map for the character so it could be bound and rendered in another package.

I really want people to learn from what have done, because when I was starting out I wish I had something like this.

Peace-NickZ. [font=Wingdings]J

Thanx a lot!!
What a cool basemesh, there really is love in it.

Also,thanx for the action.
It’s fun to recall we’re still not robots yet.

Hi nick.

I have a few questions about the base that I would find helpfull. Being I create my own bases, I just wanted to know more about your process.

  1. Did you make the inner mouth with the base outside Zbrush, and where the polygroups also made outside Zbrush? Im thinking that also the open mouth pose was made outside Zbrush, and brought in, stored as a layer, and then used morph target to bring the jaw back. Iv tryed to do alot of this in Zbrush but found I still have to do alot externaly?

  2. Ears, they are dam hard to model, easyer to sculpt, what method or is there a good one for making good edge looped ears. Iv seen some videos and they seem very complicated, much like ears themself I suppose.

Any insite to the making of it would be great. By the way, nice Uvs you added there what program you using for this?

Thanks, Tez.

in the future, you might forget from time to time, but this gift is a huge gift to the people.

and these people will become better artists thanks to you
ey, maybe one of them will be me, hehe : )

sincerely thank you

tez - 1. I made all of the base mesh outside of ZBrush. I have how ever changed my topology over, and over, and over and over. I lost track of how many times I rebuilt this thing. The great part is I now have the “project all” button in ZBrush (One of my best friends.) this way I never loose my sculpt from the past when I rebuild topology, I just reproject my work onto the new mesh and I am back up and running again.

I have created a mouth open shape in Maya and in ZBrush both. In Maya I have a little more control over the final shape because I can paint skin weights in there.

The poly groups were both made in Zbush and Maya. Some things were easier to get started in Maya and some were esier to create in ZBrush. I just used what ever tool made my life easier.

If I want to bring the model back to its initial state I have found that if I store a morph target of the model in its initial shape at the highest subdivision level works really well to always put your model back in the initial pose after it has been moved around.

  1. Ears, yes they are complicated little buggers are they not. (Didn’t give me nearly as much trouble as the feet. Feet are my enemy! I mainly try to follow the shapes. Try this, draw a backwards C. Now on the top of the backwards C draw a backwards ?. Now a little backwards C that is in the middle of the opening of the big C shape. There you will have a basic shape for your ear.

  2. All the UV’s were laid out in Maya. I try to let the computer do as much work for me as possible for creating UVs. I am soglad that many of the UV tools have improved over the years. I’m not a big fan of UV’s. I know they need to be there, at least for now, but I really think Pixologic has created something very, very powerful and cool with their polypaint feature. I often wonder…how do they come up with this stuff?

Peace-NickZ.

Thankyou Nick, thankyou pixologic also. What a contribution to a wonderfull world in a sordid nasty one.Peace to all whom wants it,and the others well…

Cal

Thanks Nick, I will read through this again a few more times and apply what im not already doing. I was never sure weather to make the head with the mouth open in its normal pose, purly for easyer sellection of the area.

Now on the ProjectAll, how are you using this, as your mesh like many of mine have open holes, mine just fold around the eye area.

What your saying about re-doing the topology many times is what iv tryed to do, but have had to scrap most of my efforts due to project all not working for me.

Thanks for the info.

Tez- Here is a video that I made that goes over the projection process.

Please note the part about storing a morph target before you project. When you do this you will have the option to “paint out” any problem areas.

Peace-NickZ.

Thank you very much Nick Z. I really wanted something like this to use as reference. It’s excellent.

You never stop giving. Where on earth do you get the time mate? haha.

Cheers.
Brett

Many thanks Nick, your tireless generosity and talent are much appreciated.

Ok! I’m blown away, had no idea you could do this in Zbrush. This is going to save me a ton of time at work. Nick do you have a link to this video so I can DL it?
