For Animation

So my friend and I are making a short movie clip. He’s not very good at making organics in 3ds Max. Well I’m getting decent in ZBrush and I know some people have said to make the model in 3ds Max first then do the detail in ZBrush. Well I tried the modeling in 3ds max and the results aren’t good.

I was wondering if instead of making it in max first I could make the basic model with a very low 1-3 sub level, export it to 3ds max and save it. Then later on after I’m done with detailing in Zbrush make all the maps & textures then bake them to the low poly model I saved earlier. I’ve seen all sorts of combinations but I don’t know if this method would work, and if it does what are some possible downside?

Thanks for anyone who has knowledge in this area.

You can start with whatever shape you want - a sphere for example. The model it completely in ZB. At soe point you’re going to want to retopologise (to create topology that will work for your animation) ad that can be done in ZB too. Once your done and it’s all bee UVed in ZB you just decide what level of geometry is going to be your base level in your animation pacjage, export that. Then creat your maps ( displacement or normal or a combination of both) which are the difference between the level you exported and the top level. Animate your base mesh in your 3D pacjage and apply the maps to it. That is the done thing.

Thank you!! That makes things a lot simpler! Now I can go back to sculpting.
