Folder shortcuts not working in ZBrush lightbox (2020,2021)

Hi,

soo the problem is i cant get those folder shortucts to work anymore. Am used to work with them for years but just recently it stoped working and i cant find out what happened. I can see them as like “empty” folders kind of …but those wont open. (Used mainly for my brushes sand alphas library)

Any help apriciated.

Thank you

Martin

Hello @Martin_mt

You may have to elaborate a bit more on what you’re referring to here. If you’re talking about dropping a custom folder shortcut into a lightbox folder, this appears to work for me without issue. If this is what you’re talking about, something may have changed in your OS environment. Permission issues after a system update are not uncommon.

HI Spyndel,
thanks for checking out. Yes its about droping custom folder shotcut for example into Zalphas folder c:\Program Files\Pixologic\ZBrush 2020.1.4\ZAlphas\ to be more specific. Can you please elaborate a bit more about those permisions. I dont have problem with *.lnk files in win 10. Only problem is that lightbox doesnt seem to recognize it anymore.

Thanks

Martin

Attaching picture where u can see two folders “new - odkaz” “_Cloth & fabrics - dokaz” …thats how they are represented in lightbox folder_shortcuts

I mean that it’s not unheard of for a system update, especially a security-oriented update, to decide that you suddenly don’t have permission to access a certain folder location anymore.

There is no specific issue with storing shortcut files in Lightbox, as far as I can determine. You can test this by creating a new test folder on your desktop, and dropping a shortcut into the Lightbox folders. If you can see that shortcut show up and not the others, ZBrush may not be able to access those folders any longer for some reason or another.

Does clicking on the folders in question still take you to that content? If so, it may simply be a system glitch with the preview icons. I would re-create the link files, and drop them into your new install.

If you can’t access the content, I would check the location directly to make sure the content is still there, and that you have permission to modify it without signing in as an admin.

If none of this works, we can attempt to help you further, but we’ll need more information. Please visit Pixologic Support, and Start a Conversation there.

Good luck!

Ok I solved it, the problem is in my language localization of Windows. In Slovak version of Win 10 when a shortcut is made it adds “– odkaz” to the name of the shortcut file. This special comas are not recognizable by lightbox explorer. I found it out when i switched to the english version of win 10 and made a shortcut and the coma was different “- Shortcut”.

Thanks for help so i knew i need to look for only my local changes.

Martin

You’re welcome. Happy Zbrushing! :slightly_smiling_face:
