Hey guys,
I’m new to Zbrush and have a question about the floor grid. Whenever I draw an object onto the canvas and go into Edit mode and press the floor grid… the floor grid is always on an angle for some reason. I would expect the grid to be flat (x axis to be perfectly horizontal, y axis to be vertical), but the grid is always appearing in the angle shown in the screenshot below. Even after readjusting the orientation of the object so that the grid is aligned… the same thing would happen again when I draw a new object on canvas to edit with. Just doesn’t seem right if this is the default setting.
Thanks in advance!
Some ideas:
- press <Shift> while rotating the mesh
- via the transform palette can you enable/disable rotation for certain axis (screenshot)
- It might be that you are talking about the Perspective View. Press ‘P’ to enable/disable that view.

thanks for the help guys!
will try those out
This is just to do with how you draw the model on the canvas before entering Edit mode. It’s nothing to worry about. If you drag straight down then your model will be positioned correctly. Probably you are dragging at an angle. But you can soon straighten things up once in Edit mode by rotating the model and using Shift to snap to position.
It may seem odd that ZBrush behaves this way but it is all to do with its hybrid nature as part 3D sculpting app and part 2D illustration app. You can read about it here:

ahh… things starting to make sense now. thanks so much for the help!
the axis plugin is also very useful!
