Flooding the model with a texture

Short beginner question, I hope:

I’m just modeling a chainmail armor. Therefor I built the basic model in maya and want to create a very high res version in ZBrush now for Normal Mapping.

I imported a chainmail alpha (seamless texture image) and want to project that structure seamlessly onto the model. How can I achieve this? When I paint it, it always paints the whole alpha, but I want the structure covered over the whole model?

Cheers,
Ephialtes

you must have a tileable (in all directions) texture for this

lowest SubD
tool>texture>uvtile

make the chainmail alpha active.

tool>masking>mask by alpha

tool>deformations>inflate (pick a number)

Thank you very much. That looks really wonderful bow

I’m in the phase of learning these workflows at the moment… learning how ZBrush… thinks. It’s like learning Photoshop years ago g

glad I could help.

and you’ll get the hang of it. It isn’t really that scary of a program, but yes, workflows are a bit different when you get started.

At the moment, I can’t get this program out of my head. I mean, I modeled for some time in 3D Max, Maya and C4D before… but ZBrush broght back this childish fun… where you want to model everything you see and look at e.g. an exhaust of a car and think of materials and the right usage of tools. ^^
