Flip Symmetry on facial expression

Hi,

I have a character with a non symmetrical smile (lips pushed to the left) and I want to flip the smile to the right (If I mirror it I get the correct result but everything gets flipped).

I would like to do something similar to the smart resym on the mouth area but without actually mirroring the model (since it will swap UVs and change the detail to the other side etc).
Is there a way to do this in Zbrush?

Hope the question is clear enough!

Are you working in Layers? Did you store a morphtarget before posing the face?

Im doing morph targets for different facial expressions so I still have the original neutral expression. But Im doing a lot of “one sided” expressions that need to be done for both sides like mouth grin to the right or mouth grin to the left and I want to just make symmetry for them so I dont have to always start from the neutral.

So to answer the question, I can store the morph target before doing the expression if it helps fix the problem!

Anyone? I got a kind of tight deadline and some suggestions or guidelines would be awesome!

Sorry to bump this again but I would really like to confirm if its actually possible to do this in Zbrush or not.

How about cloning the tool, mirroring the clone, then projecting all back to the original with or without a mask on one side if you wish.

Quite easy to do it in zbrush.

@Matuka: Ive tried to do that but the results arent accurate enough, the amount of cleaning I have to do (specially in the mouth area) makes it more worth doing it manually.

@beta_channel: What is quite easy? And could you explain how I could use the morph target to achieve what I need?

Try moving the layer slider just a hair above 0 then projecting, then move it a little further and projecting again. That way u can slowly pull the same geo into the projection instead of projecting to different normals with an extreme expression. Might work

Just tried that, it doesn’t work and the workflow is still longer than doing it manually.

1.Mirror head in “Base” pose and Export
2.Mirror head in “Smile Right” pose and export
3.Import “Mirror Base” and store Morph Target
4.Import “Mirror Smile Right”
5.Move slider by 10% increment (unfortunately once I let go of the slider that morph becomes the new one, I cant slide back to 100% so I’ll have to import the mesh every single time I want to do the increments)
6.Project All
7.Clean up and restart from step 4.

Apart from being a big pain to import every time I want to do increments, I still get distortion in the lip corners. I think it has to be some mathematical thingie reading the actual symmetry and points location, otherwise its always faster to just put the mirrored head in Transparent mode and do it by eye.
