Flip Normals bug and workaround

I’m doing a pretty cool sculpt, I’m hiding faces and polygroups to work on hard to see areas. I’ve got 5 subdivision levels, and I’m using posable symmetry. Then I try flipping the normals, so that I can sculpt from the inside, a trick I’ve used before, and extremely helpful when using zproject. (Though note I am not using zproject when the error I’m describing occurs.)

Flipping normals crashes ZBrush.

Flipping normals on any subdivision level other than the highest level seems to crash zbrush with any tool. (I tried the demo head, and poly sphere with reconstruct.) Even at the top subdiv level, flipping normals seems to completely destroy posable symmetry. Flipping the normals back does not fix posable symmetry.

Anyway, my project is fine, I saved my tool, and besides ZBrush saved the recovery file before it shut down. I have a simple base mesh and had no problems re-establishing posable symmetry. I just thought you should know about the bug and workaround.

Seeing the posable symmetry gets kind of scattered around the mesh at random, I’m wondering whether flipping normals re-numbers the vertices or something.

This is ZBrush 3.5 r 3

It also borks a saved morph.
