Flat Color turns into Red Wax

Hi,

just wanted to create a few individual masks for the subtools of a model I’m working on. For that, I switched to the Flat Color Material, changed the color of the subtool that I want to make a mask from to white and all the other subtools to black. The thing now is, that the Flat Color Material turns into the Red Wax Material as soon as I fill the subtools with black (RGB 0,0,0). It seems to work with a “lighter” black (RGB 0,0,1) tho.

Is it supposed to be like that? I mean, I can probably still use the mask, if the black color has an RGB value of 0,0,1. I just wanted to know if this is normal or if there is a way to turn this off.

Filling an object with Flat Color deletes polypainted material. This causes the object to become “live” again from a material standpoint, automatically changing to use whatever material is currently selected in the Material palette. You’re seeing Red Wax because that’s the material you have selected at the moment.

To fill an object with JUST color and not material, simply change from Draw>Mrgb to Draw>Rgb. Conversely, changing to Draw>M tells ZBrush to fill with just material and not affect color.

hey, thanks for the quick reply.
I didn’t actually fill the subtools with black. I filled them white and turned off Polypainting except for the tool I wanted the mask of.

So, the subtools that are black are “live” from the start. I just switched to the Flat Color Material and chose black as the color without filling any subtool with color. In the Color Selector I clicked and dragged along the left side of the inner square, so the color of the subtools went from white to black. But when I reached the bottom left corner (RGB 0,0,0), the material changed into the Red Wax material. When I dragged back up, it switched back to Flat Color.
