Flat Cap Chap

I’ve been lurking for years now and thought I’d finally participate. This guy is based on a quick little doodle I did at work a few months ago while waiting for some renders. I liked it enough to put it aside to sculpt, and I finally sat down to work on it this week. He could still use a detail pass, but I think this is enough for now. I may build out a whole scene for him after this job when I have more time.

...and the sketch he's based on:

And here's what's left of my sculpting process for this character, up until ZBrush crashed and took the last third of the recording with it. I think what's left is still worthy of sharing though. Enjoy.

Hi friend, keep up the good work! Not bad for someone just beginning with z-brush!!! OMG

hey man that’s awesome!

I didn’t mean to imply I was just getting started. I’ve been using ZBrush for more than 6 years. Just that I’ve never posted.

Really cool design, both in 2D and 3D, you really nailed the zbrush version … very respectful of the drawing style
Awesome !

very nice character, just wonderful features.

Lovely work Max and thank you for exposing yourself.
I suspect this an urban flat cap wearer as opposed to rural?

Really nice character!

Reminds me of Dominique Pinon from Delicatessen, Amelie and Alien: Resurrection fame:

You nailed the style, and I love it.

The sketch is awesome and the sculpt has the same style: really cool character!
Thanks for the timelapse

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Yes Boozie, it’s more urban than rural. The vibe I’m going for is a sort of tough older guy, maybe an ex fighter in his younger days. I have a potential scene I’d like to put him in to see the contrast of this guy in an Italian cafe sipping a tiny espresso with his big meaty hands. So he’s a mix of tough and classy. Hence the scarf and pea coat combined with the set jaw and broken nose.

Zombie, I definitely see Dominique Pinon in him too. I was sort of aware of that as he was evolving and I like the comparison, though I wasn’t going for a likeness.

But really I’m glad you guys like it. I was afraid to post here because I usually don’t share my work like this. Thanks for the warm welcome.

hey man thanks for revealing yourself to me! Its really inspiring! :):)

HI! by the way have you considered sub dividing with some sub surface scattering tossed in? That would rule!!!
