Fisherman

So…Just graduated…got a job…havnt found time to sculpt…i figure its about time to start again. I blocked out a scene where the fisherman is sitting on a dock fishing. Then I went in and blocked out a character by zspheres, then blocked him out by using the clay tubes brush to get a feel for the weight of the character. Don’t want to get to much detail because i need to pose him. I havn’t used any reference yet, but will do so when i am refining the blocking.

Total time --> 2 hours (i remember when this would take a more than a week when i was getting familiar with zbrush).

Nice! Very nice!

Thanks Konjo…I saw a tutorial forever back on the old zbrush 3 wiki for creating hands and saw some canned mushrooms tutorials that was similar (when zspheres were not very well understood). Figured as long as i got something that resembled hands I could block it out once i created the mesh from the zspheres. I used to spend hours in Maya trying to build a base mesh pushing and pulling vertices…zspheres is the way to go. Its so quick and intuitive.

updates will be coming…and thanks Guti for the kind comments

Hey Something I love the style. I hope you keep the big hands as they really add character

Started to block out the face and add some eyes. About 45m or so. I spent some time in Topogun messing around with how I am going to retop him. Oh, and I am definitely keeping the hands and feet large as it really adds to the stylistic nature of him. Any other suggestions are more than welcome as i don’t have a percise direction pinned down, i’m leaving this project open and allowing the work to fluctuate when it needs to…

starting roughly blocking out some clothing after some research of fishermen. maybe an hour or so. Built them in Maya and then imported into Zbrush. No Uvs yet, no proper topology…its all in the next step after blocking. I’m just crossing my fingers that i’ll be able to retop them properly and import uvs without issues. I figure i should be okay.

I think I am going to stay fairly stylized without too much detail. And possibly do a mini animated short with this guy in maya. I also said maybe i would do an animated short, just for the record, lol.

I certainly appreciate you posting your zSphere base for this. Nicely done. I’m learning a lot by looking at this. Your sculpt is coming along nicely.

Very nice character and excellent use of zspheres.

heres the latest with the face. Hat is not really sculpted, just threw it in to get a feel for the character. No alpha detailing, or wrinkles, just the big ones. He’s coming along…just slowly, if only i had more time, lol.

started blocking out some wrinkles and started to define the hat. Its coming along. any suggestions at this point are much appreciated.

This is really cool man, it’s cool to see how you made the character with zspheres first off. I’m just starting to practice using zspheres myself and it actually makes it a ton easier to create human bodies with exaggerated proportions and stuff like that, so it’s cool to see the process that your model went through. Great stuff man!
