First ZSculpt

Hello ZbrushCentral, I am here to post my first ZSculpt. The character is a fat stubby man, almost a mix between a human and a dwarf.

Please give me some advice on how to sculpt better and what to improve on, I have done my Zbrush homework and this is what I have.

I think you should try and make his neck more defined, add some toenails and some overall definition. :smiley:

Well Thanks for the reply, I thought my thread did not even post… I guess there was a delay from when I posted and when it actually showed up on the forum.

I am only a beginner at zbrush and working with a fairly low poly sculpt in zbrush standard. I will subdivide more and add a lot more details like toenails and such as i move along.

Also if anyone is interested I want to post my ztool here so people can sculpt on it and kind of teach me what they did. If someone has any free time and loves to sculpt that is.

So anyone interested?

Oh and for the sculpt, I’m going to head over to my friends house soon so ill be working on the sculpt more, wierd thing is that my friend knows less than me in ZBRUSH but we watch videos together to learn more.

Yeah man, post it and id like to take a hack at it. Try to do most of your definition in the lowest or second lowest level of polygons, youd be surprised of the results you get and you have so much more control over it.

Thanks Ben! Here’s the ztool. I am currently unwrapping the model in subd 2 in Max and then will bring back in Zbrush. I hope it works!

i dunno, maybe I’m nuts, but when I am sculpting, I always divide to at least the 5th or 6th level right off the bat. I find that sculpting solely on the lower res levels stunts my creativity. Maybe because at the higher levels things are more crisp and even though I’m not cutting in details in the beginning, the feel of it seems to give me ideas as I am going as the form is more literal at higher res. I am constantly flipping back and forth from low to high in the beginning.

It makes sense, and you are supposed to go into that high a level but its easier to do the big adjustments in the first or second and keep getting finer and finer. If your good you can do almost all the details in the first and second with little needed past maybe the 4th, unless your going really fine.

Yea ill upload using another website. Don’t try to open it on the websites just download on your PC. you also need winrar, but who dosen’t have that lol

I was wondering, If i wanted to take this model back into Max for rendering under mray and vray what should i do first? I mean this is what I am going to do, but i’m stuck.

  1. Take around the 5k poly model into max
  2. unwrap it
  3. bring it back into zbrush
  4. now what? how do i get all my detail work from 1.2mil and textured to my actual uv for normal and all the color maps?

hey there.

IF i would use max (i don’t) ^^ i would try to retopo the guy for the perfect topology. then project his details. then export the lowres as a obj. then bring it into max. then make uvs, bring it back to zbrush. divide it to the same point and project the detail again.

search the forums, there where already many answers for this…

Thanks for the advice good sir, I will defenetly try to do that. I was actually thinking of just doing all my painting and everything then just using the REALLY REALLY bad uv map’s that ZBrush makes and take them into Max.

What do you guys think?
