First ZBrushing Project WIP Ronnie Coleman

Just a test above. Displacement map curl in Maya. I’m aware of it’s shortcomings, just a quick experiment.

I need to get motivated to do a ZBrush illustration so I’m posting a WIP to embarrass myself in it’s early stages. It’s going to be 2 full body figures. This is one of the people. I’m not using a background to trace from, just looking at photos. Not certain which direction I’m going to go. Mabey caricaturizing like in the caricature below but I started out more realistic.

EDIT: adding more as I go along...more below

good start!

save the model twice…one for realistic and one for caricature and explore a little each way…then run with either you like best or both!

Thanks, Aminuts.

Here’s an updated version. I’m going to go with a caricature. This one still has alot of tweaking to do. I’ll smooth out the top of the head, jaw etc…

Reference is below so people will see more views of what he looks like.

More models. I’m doing these really quickly. I’ve studied ZBrush but never modeled anything so these are a bit rough. By using ZBrush everyday I’ll be at a high level by the end of 2006. But this is beginner stuff for me right now.
At Siggraph I got all the Gnomon DVDs and it helps alot.
I took the time to learm Maya specifically so I could use it with ZBrush.

I’m glad you went the caricature rout, you seem to have a natural tallent for it.

good model, however your animation of the arm has unnatural deformation

the bicep should bulge and squash and the tricep should stretch.

…caricatures !
And nice animation of an electoral arm in meeting campain
Pilou

Thanks, Handlebar, Neuroticgothguy, and Frenchy Pilou.

Neuroticgothguy, you’re right. I had written a line underneath the animation because I knew it was off. The biceps should stretch and triceps should flex in the arm down position. The biceps should flex and the triceps should stretch in the arm up position. Plus there should be movement in the brachialis which is between the biceps and triceps during the movement as well, plus the shoulder should have movement too. I was mainly testing out animating the arm with it’s deformation map in Maya without regard to accurate deformation of the individual muscles.

Nice caricatures. I know who all those guys are, but then again I’m into bodybuilding so I’m familiar with their faces. Either way they are recognizable.

Good modelling. I especially like the head of Dorian yates, it brought a smile to my face.:+1:

Thanks, Rzieba and DigitalDreamer.

DigitalDreamer, here’s the Yates body.
