First model...

My left hand - pretty obvious modelling subject for a start. That’s my first “real” model in any 3d application. Modelling, texturing and rendering done in ZBrush, skin material by jantim.

Yes, lighting is inspired by Francois Rimasson’s hand model

Please tell me what you think

Pretty nice all round, in all it looks like a nice painting if that was what you are going for. If you were looking at generating a realistic hand, its all in the little details that catch the light.

for a first “real” 3d model ever…it’s pretty damn good. Jason is right …if you want it to look more realistic…details and shadows would help greatly…a very slight addition of cavity shading might help there.

only crit I would have is the thumb looks a tad off to me…but I of course am comparing it to mine and how mine attaches to my hand…there is more of an angle to it even if I try to pose it how your hand is…at the base I mean.

Anyways…good job!! Look forward to updates or your next project.

Hi, Yosasa

The model looks good to me, skinmaterial often looks flat, and is therefore
not easy to light, its easy (er )to skin and ligt a old “gnarly” hand, but a “young”
hand is not a dramatic item
You could try to use sidelight to enhance the form of the handpalm, but if
you want to use Francois light try altering the diffuse settings of the material
specular settings are tricky, because skin is not that shiny.

Hi Yosasa

( sorry i’ve been typing grey on a grey background again:( )
Your model looks good to me, its a young hand so it’s not as dramatic to
skin and light as an old gnarly hand, and lets face it skin often does look flat
with an even lightrig.
You could use a side ligt only to test the form of the hand, but if you want to use Francois lightsetting , you could change the diffuse settings, specular is
tricky because a only a sweating or oily hand is shiny, using a sort of light
brown or orange cavityshading with low setting could help also…but not
bad for a first model in Zbrush, hope to see more of your work in the future:)

Fantastic ! This one looks almost the same that François Rimasson one ! Great work ! :+1:

Thanks for the critique guys! At first i wanted to make an old hand but I’m not skilled enough yet to create realistic detail (especially wrinkles), so I just dodged it - hence the young and flat look. I will try to play with the lighting and material settings to expose a little more of the geometry I’ve put into this model, once again thanks for the suggestions.

aminuts, modelling the thumb was a real chore, I’m still not satisfied with it’s look, so I’ll probably tweak it here and there.

EDIT: I forgot to add, that even though it’s in the spirit of François’ model I didn’t use his tutorial during the modelling.

Just an update on the thumb and a look at the detail with bump viewer shader and no texture.
