first female face

hi everybody
i need some help again  i am watching Ryan Kingslien tutorial for the female bust and… i got stuck here it is just keep looking very male instead of a female. i tried moving stuff around making the lips bigger and a lot of other things but no effect. so… would some take a look and suggest where do i go from here. Or is it easier just to start all over again! What would be a good book to get to learn more for human faces? or onother tutorial.
thanks in advance

There is no need to start over. I think you learn much more from sticking with it and trying to get it right.

By far the biggest male characteristic is the square jaw. You can see this clearly in the side view. Woman dont have a “corner” but instead a nice smooth rounding to the jaw.

Like this: http://artfiles.art.com/images/-/Keira-Knightley-Photograph-C12118073.jpeg

She also seems to have a bit of a large nose. While this is not a rule set in stone woman generally appear to have a bit shorter noses.

Apart from that there is the eyebrow ridge. This is something that is almost never as emphasized in woman as it is in your sculpt.

Here is an example: http://www.intuitivmedia.net/data/picture/detail/726.jpg

See how there is hardly any bump? Better to have no bump then too have too much there.

I think those things will help. But woman faces are hard.

this is exactly what i wanted. thanks man. just by experimenting i could not get it right and i needed exactly this. i did not actually expected someone to help me with this one because it is just … i know i have to try it by myself. thanks this is very nice of you to attach and examples.
i cant continue with it now but i will tomorrow. cant wait.
have a good day

hello disanski,
your model looks just fine from the front view, the problem appears on the other views.
Beside 3dioot suggestions, you can try with this arrangements I’ve done in photoshop.
I hope it will help.

thank you very much for taking time and fixing her up! i see you made the neck larger and the ears smaller and you move the whole chin backwards a bit and you also fixed the corner on the back of the jaw. the top of the head as well. Thank you i am gonna try to do it myself now.

so it took me a while it was not as easy as i thought
here is it again and i tried to fix what you guys advised me to. so is it any better? what else could i fix? are the eyebrows still a bit to far out?

wow, much, much better, I would move eyeballs more deeper( but that’s just a question of taste  ), and maybe smooth the transmission between nose and cheeks.
Great work, keep it going

thanks man. i will smooth that. by the way i love your runner and the girl as well! have a good evening

Hey Disanski, this has improved a lot. It’s looking really good. I would soften the transition beteween the nose and the chic like Koyazzman had mentioned.

Keep zbrushing. :+1:

Yes! Great update! -She- looks much nicer now. See how it would have been a waste if you would have started over?

Now its time to really focus on facial structure/proportion though. As koyazzman said the eyes should be deeper set into the face. I dont think its a matter of taste though, eyes are never as far to the front as they are currently on your model.

Here are a few resources which will help you alot if you take the time to study them. The first one is a small movie on the freedomofteach website by ryan kingslien. Its one of my favourites.

[Creating a basic well proportioned head](http://www.freedomofteach.com/products/artist_busts/bust_skeleton_torso/zbrush_demo)

Here is the finished "simple" face so you have something to aim for as an obj file:

Also i find this a great site for human anatomy. Its very well explained from an artists perspective.

      [The art of Anatomy](http://www.theartofanatomy.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=3)

Here is a thread specific for the human head (but there is also one for nose, ears, eyes etc).

      [Head thread](http://www.theartofanatomy.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=45&sid=dd5d10ff20911056f435514f4817d41d)

I suggest you browse the other ones too. Especially the eye thread has good information about the cheekbones and well.. the eyes. :)

Also here is something ive made for myself. A "reference" image if you will of several basic approaches to heads. The simpler forms help you to keep your overall proportions in check.

 Keep up the good work!

thank you very much for the very helpful links. i watched the short video and it is really very good stuff. i love the way this guy explains things it really makes it look simple and step by step. i new the eyes are a bit to far but i wanted to make sure that i fixed what you recommended about the eyebrows and that is why i guess but i will fix that right away and i am going to take a look at the rest of the links that you posted.
somehow the image that you put there i can not open but it is probably my mistake.
thank you very very much once again
