Only done two CAD/CAM projects to date, this is the first with ZBrush since I’m feeling more confident with my abilities in it. Turned out relatively well, though there’s a few things I didn’t notice until after I sent the file it, but I’m on a deadline since it’s a school project and didn’t have the luxury of letting it sit for a day and going back to look at it. Psycho Mask isn’t 100% accurate, but I think it’s recognizable. Decimated the crap out of the relief part and I’m not sure if that was necessary or not. The guy that machined it said there were errors with it and he had to mill it rather than print it (which is fine since there’s no undercuts).
Anyway, project is to make some kind of an award. I went with sort of a War Medal, though technically I’m making a Borderlands Achievement for killing bandits. But it’s easier to tell non-gamers a fictional War Medal. I’m in a craft school that is unfortunately treated more like an art school than it should be by most of the faculty and higher ups. I’m not interested in sending some kind of message or making any kind of statement about real world concerns and all of that, I just want to make cool stuff that I can actually be proud that I made. So went with what I care about. My teacher rightly says I’m probably going to get some ridicule for it, but neither he nor I give a crap about that.
Don’t expect the detail to come out super sharp, especially like the teeth. But really going to have to wait and see when the actual piece gets here next week.
Base wasn’t made in ZBrush, use another program for precise measurements and there was no need for me to try and remake it in ZBrush since I wasn’t going to cave it, some obvious faceting going on. Included the base on it’s own too since (as long as it comes out how I want) you can see that from the backside, though obviously with the outline of the relief.
Edit: Decided to put up the full 3D version of it on my DA account so uploading it here too. Looks so much better than the relief version, but it’s totally practical for what I’m doing with it. Wish I could have spent more time and gone back on the relief and made it look as nice as the 3D version, but my deadline is running so tight that I literally didn’t even have an extra hour to spend working on it so I could get it to the guy machining it and back on time. It’s due the day after it’s delivered.
