First body attempt. WIP...WIP

First Body attempt: Very WIP from a NEWB. Alot of work to do as I learn along the way. Suggestions most appreciated! All done in Zbrush. Still have to block out the arms, hands, and lower body.

Well I think you should get the whole body worked out before you start to add more detail to the torso. Work on the limbs, just try to give them the right shapes first.

Thanks Roja.

Below is more basic shaping. Still much to do. Suggestions always welcome.

Ryan Kingslein has a script awhile back for centaur and image projection that might really help you out. It was called Zb_viewSave, he built the basic structure with zspheres, and then modeled the muscles through the image, and even projected the image into the surface for detail.

Thanks Jason. Will look that up right now.

Work cont’d. I think I am wearing out the crtl + z key. Any pointers appreciated, I still have hands, feet and lower calves to shape out before I go and try to figure out how to stitch a head on him before I refine the entire project. Quick question though, does the abdomen area appear a touch long proportionally?

I think the abdomen could be made a bit wider…the hip area, where the legs are attached, looks a bit strange too. I think if you fill it in more it’d look better.

Where is your reference information? Images, medical or otherwise? Search teh web young fella, it is full of treasure!

Thanks Jason and Roja. Ref pics it is. I went out and found some good ref pics and trying to get the model more anatomically correct. I think the feet are beyond repair and I may have to amputate and make the feet seperately and stitch them back on. Insert Dr. Frankenstein laugh here Anyways thanks for the tips and will post an update soon.

Man, I am slow. Changed the midsection after studying some reference material. Started on the legs. Arms and hands need some serious work. Slow, but I know the first one is always the slowest. I am a plodder though so I think it should be at least recognizable as human when finished. Pointer always appreciated - even if they must be preceded by a virtual smack upside the head.

Wasn’t happy at all with the way the previous body was progressing. So, I took some advice from viewers of this thread and got some anatomy photos. Also decided to add a head instead of trying to stitch an old one on later. Below is the progress thusfar, all Z-brush of course. Still a -long- way to go but I like this progression alot better. Thanks for looking.

Nice head Grasshoppa! :+1: The leg proportions need some work, there is something not right about them… -looks again- Maybe the ankles need to be pushed outwards a bit so they can support the weight better?

Thanks for the heads up on the legs/ankles Plakkie. I pulled them out a bit. Looks a little better, but still not quite right. Worked on the head a bit tonight. Hands, and feet are still a mess, collar bones need work as well. So much to do. Thanks for lookin.

I’m no anatomy expert at all, so I can only admire how you are improving this model. :+1:
But as anyone, I see humans all the time, and that’s why it is easy to spot that somethings are ‘not right’, though it is hard to say what exactly. If I look form a distance at the overal figure I would say the chest and arms are too big compared to the rest of the body. Maybe you could try scaling those sections down a bit, just to see if it helps, I might be wrong ofcourse.
Those ankles look much better. :+1: Looks like the feet could be a bit bigger and maybe you could ad just a bit more flesh on the outside of the legs just above the ankles?
Keep going, you’re going to get it right!

I agree on the chest and arms comment. Especially the lower arms are way too big in my opinion. Concerning the legs: they seem to short to me. Great model nonetheless. I’ve been playing around with ZBrush for a couple of months now and I just can’t get the hang of it.

Plakkie: Thanks for the suggestions, my friend and keep them coming. I can use all the help I can get and believe me - it is truly appreciated.

Rhenderoceros: Thanks. I am new to this as well. Bought this back at the beggining of the year and I still don’t have the hang of it. But, I am an “old dog” and this is a brand new trick. Keep at it. The folks around here will help you with just about any problem you have with the Z-machine.

Well, its 12:30 am. Wife is in bed so I am now aloud to play. Off to Z-brushing. Hopefully I will have some progress worth posting.
