First attempts

This is like a cross between the new bat-mobile, and some bad@$$ terrorist killin device!
Love your work, as always.

I meant to ask…
Would you be willing to pass on a few tips about how you created that pirate ship?
I’ve been really toying with the idea of adding some sort of yacht or sailboat to this image that I posted the other day.
I ended up giving shadow box a second chance, but wasn’t able to get any nice shapes going…
Thanks for your time,
Corey

the polypaint fits the model nicely !!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

I’d be happy to Corey! Keep in mind that my memory is pretty fuzzy concerning anything that occurred more than five hours ago.

The hull of the ship started out in shadowbox (of course) with just a long box which I cut down on the sides with the mask curve tool. Once I exited shadowbox I had to experiment to get the roundness I wanted but found that spherize under the deformations subpallet worked really well. Click x (again, memory is fuzzy here so you may need to experiment) to use it on that axis only. You may have noticed that the ship has an odd shape compared to a regular craft and that’s just because I wanted to do that. If you want a more conventional look, you shouldn’t have to do much of anything to the hull. The raised decks in the back were just simple masking and extracting upwards using the the transpose move tool. You can do it with inflate on the y axis too, but I use transpose because it’s faster and seems smoother than inflate for something like this.

The sails were something I was wondering how to do until I did some experimentation again. They’re just plane3ds with double checked in the display properties. Then I used gravity under deformations to get them to billow out in the direction I needed.

The rest is pretty easy. Just poke and prod at the model till you get something you like.

Hope this helps, Corey! Your Overlook looks great by the way!

Thanks Gary. I’m having a lot of fun creating mechanical stuff like this.

i would use the tools such as trimdynamic, trimadaptive and dam standard when working on hard surfaces such as your tanks.

try to use dam standard to harden the edges of your hard surfaces, and then use trim dynamic to find the planes you need…

It’s great to see you put in so much efforts in all your models … keep this up ~!

Ah man, this one is turning out real great Gary. Again, looks like something that belongs in Halo or something like that.

Thanks, Dragon.

Messin’ around with PS.

Yeah vodoodad nice work on that bad ass war tank :>
One thing maybe you can subdivide it once more and clean some edges and make them even crisper!
for example on the front bumper :>
Keep it going buddy,

  • Kenny:>

Another first attempt here. Working on some ancient ruins for a new project.

Experimenting with textures. This is another first attempt. Never used textures in Zbrush before.

Yeah another great envi work =)
Maybe as a little inspiration, look at David Lesperance page
He tought Environment sculpting in december at the gnomon masterclass
and he is doing right that what you are doing now =)
Looking forward seeing more from you buddy,
Happy sculpting

  • Kenny =)

:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1: looking great Gary - will make for a nice scene !

Thanks guys!

I’m just bursting with first attempts today. First time using fibermesh this time. What was I waiting for? I have no idea…

Great Job! Waiting for further updates!

Thanks, Faircat.

This is the direction I’m going with this. There’s a ton of tweaking to do and I still have a bit more modeling to add to the final image.

Wow!
Very cool scene!

Corey

Thanks Corey!

More progress. I decided I didn’t like the texture for the surface and I think it gives more of an illusion of being “deep sea” without it. The submarine started out as a doodle in shadowbox and kind of evolved into a sort of bio-steampunk-scifi looking thing.

Hi VoodooDad

I like the second from bottom piece posted above…Has a magical quality and element about it with what’s happening in the sky…like air turning into water and exploding at the same time…an atmospheric burst…
Could even have that center of the burst at the top of the composition as a visual shot of star studded deep space…blackish blue in color…Might add an extra dimention to the scene…Just me thing out loud again…
Might tone down that FiberMesh grass in the forground…maybe add some areas with smaller thickness in amonst the thicker pieces, just for variation and to enhance the illussion of depth…overlapping ect…
Anyway, Great to see you starting to experiment with that FiberMesh…Great New feature and addition to ZBRUSH…Lots and Lots of possibilities for it’s use…:):+1:

Glenn

Thanks, Glenn! I’m probably going to take this one in a dozen different directions. Initially, I really wanted to do an underwater scene with the simple little sub I created, but you’ve given me a few ideas to work on.

I spent some time fiddling with my tank tonight and kind of like this one. Still needs a lot of tuning but I like the way it’s turning out.
