Anatomy is firstly the study of the whole figure. Secondly, understanding proportion is the means to achieving a well sculpted study. The head as unit of measure is just the starting point. You can find numerous texts that give a clear description of how this is achieved.
Generally, always complete the expression of the larger forms and their relative size relationships to one another first. Take the necessary time to do this step before moving to lesser sized forms. Details always come last!!!
The rush to achieve detail has ruined more art than any other failure. Buildings fall without a good foundation. Always work Macro to Micro.
Your sculpt suffers from this. The details look nice but the proportions are wrong. Head too small for the body, neck is terribly exaggerated and too long. The pectoral muscle on the average human can be measured at approx 1 head from chin to nipple and so forth. On your figure the pecs are at least 1 and 1/2 heads from chin to nipple.
I could go on but the reason for these problems is that you did not measure and proportion your basic shapes from the outset.
Suggestion: do it over. Measure the proportional relationships on your own body and use that info to create a more accurate basic shape. Don’t finish this study; work only the masses.
Come back a week later and check your work.
At that time, start again from scratch. Work the mass until it’s accurately proportioned. Work this till it’s about half way complete but no fine detail.
Wait a week, come back check your work.
Repeat again starting from scratch and then take to a finish.
Repeatedly working the mass speeds up ones ability to measure and judge finer more detailed relationships on things like fingers, facial features, etc.
Creating accurate and convincing proportions takes a lot of practice.
Good luck
willbrown1 thank you so much for your Critics i really need this , i’ll try to do what u suggest , thank you again .
My pleasure! The only thing I ask as is this: when you see an artist you can help, pass the tribal knowledge on. I expect in a few days I’ll see a much improved version of your first post.
Again good luck and Happy Zbrushing!
