Hey, first post but I have been lurking on the site for awhile in awe of the pieces on display. Been doing some practicing with modeling in general for a while but feel like now is a good time to take that self improvement to a public audience. So after a recent Firefly viewing I thought I would do some character sculpts. The first one is Mal Reynolds played by Nathan Fillion. Would love to get some crits and comments from you guys as I can feel I am almost there for a likeness but missing some little details. Any particular tips for the mouth area would be great as it’s current form is failed attempt number 6.

First some colorless sculpts and i'll tack on a quick zapplink textured head at the end.

So far so good. My critiques are:

The mouth is the first area I was drawn to that did not match the likeness of your reference. The mouth seems a bit too pinched. I think if you widen the mouth a little more and relax the shape of the lips a bit it will be closer to your reference.

Other than that it looks good. The texture is fitting nicely, I would just remove the hair on the forehead.

Hey man, cool model.

I think you should try and smooth the cheek area, seems a little bumpy. I have to agree with the mouth area, seems a little too pinched at the ends.
