Finishing a game model (topology, textures, amount of polygons)

Hello ZBrush Community,

I am still working on my Venom model. Slowly the project is coming to an end. Well, the modeling of the figure itself went quite well, but now I have a few problems. They concern the topology, the textures, and the intended number of polygons.

Let’s start with my question about the topology. I would like to know how to edit it best, so that there won’t be any problems with the animation later. I know that ZBrush already offers the function to edit the topology, but would you recommend editing the topology with ZBrush? I mean was it well programmed? If not, what program would you recommend to edit the topology?

Then the textures. I already know a few maps. The Ambient Occlusion, Normal, Spec, Displacement, the Bump map and of course the normal map with the color information (I know it as “display map”, but I’m not sure if that’s the correct tern …).
Are there any more maps I should know about? And which ones do I need if the model is supposed to be imported into a game?

And finally, I would like to know how many polygons a game model should have at max. The best I could get for Venom right now without completely destroying the details would be 40,000 polygons. In addition to that I have to say that I currently only have a “Display” and a Displacement Map.

I would appreciate any answer that can help me with at least a part of my questions.

greetings
